1st visit. Convinced hubby to go to the Royal Mile and had a wee stop on way up Fleshmarket Close. Small, snug pub that's been around for centuries. Outdoor seating also available. Popular with tourists and locals alike. Definitely get a sense of olde worlde here. If only walls could talk!

Really chilled pub, nice and cosy. Felt very local with really friendly atmosphere. Lots of choices for whisky. A must visit

As they say, it's the smallest award winning pub in Edinburgh. It's a great little spot for a drink. Maybe a little "touristy"?

Cute and hidden pub near a busy road in Edinburgh. It is located halfway a long and steep staircase. This makes it a hidden gem (but unfortunately not so accessible ofcourse) Unfortunately, the lower review is caused by the price we have paid for two beers. Together, for a pint a person we had to pay £14 in total; which is think is a crazy amount of money..

This pub is such a hidden gem right at the base of Fleshmarket Close, where we happened to be staying during our visit to Edinburgh. We stopped in for the sheer convenience, and immediately felt comfortable in this cozy little spot. There were just a few others there, so our group of 5 easily found a table to gather around. The bartender was super friendly and offered great suggestions to suit our individual tastes. She was also a saint for dealing with some of the patrons who couldn't seem to take last call for an answer. The space is pretty small, so we ended up befriending the group of locals who were there and barhopping with them when it closed around 11pm. Overall we were enamored with Halfway House and I would encourage anyone visiting old town not to overlook it!
