About us

The inn was open for business during the First and Second World Wars, and is reputed to have been a haven for German prisoners of war. The soldiers, who were held half a mile away at the Costain compound, used to sneak to the inn where they enjoyed a few drinks before heading back to their camp.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Had a brilliant server who couldn’t have provided more. We were a reasonable size table but she was at hand for all of our needs and got our order spot on. Food was okay but I ordered a chicken pie and as I dug into the pie it turned out to be steak and red wine. I think it’s important to inform people if you’re going to swap it out last minute. That and the fact we had booked a table but had to wait half an hour after our booking for our table to be ready. Whilst I was disappointed with the pie, the staff were very apologetic and even offered to cook another one, obviously I stuck with the pie I was given but thought it was nice of them to offer and try to rectify the issue. Overall, a lovely family Sunday lunch.

Lovely dog friendly pub. Food was lovely and so was our service. Only neg was it was cold where we were sat and the coffee machine wasn't working(not their fault and should be getting a new one next week.) Will look forward to a summer visit in the garden

I had a delectable evening at this good establishment. Service was top drawer, and the ales on tap were scrumptious. I would definitely take my wife here if it wasnt for the fact I've already taken the mistress! Guess shes missed out.

Food was very good as usual. Service was good. It was cold in the pub, the staff received a few other complaints about it so we're aware but could not do anything to resolve, the large radiator behind our table (10 of us on large table) was not working, staff did not even know the radiator was there
