I had an exceptional steak with a perfect Padron peppers starter. I could not fault the quality, presentation or service. I highly recommend the food and accommodation. Above and beyond the standard of a local inn.
My Mum has just stayed for a couple of nights having travelled from London to visit us. Rooms need rethinking. Beautiful furniture, and very clean. However, think that the proprietor needs to actually stay in one of the rooms to judge the functionality. Room and bathrooms would only need a couple of tweaks to improve the stay so much. Such as a chair in the bedroom, shelf in the bathroom. Noone wants to leave their toiletries on top of the toilet. Also a leaking toilet, stemmed by towels. Highlighted to the cleaner who highlighted this to management as noone around till 4pm when the pub opened. Problem not fixed during stay, but appreciate due to time of year this may have not been possible. Also no hamper breakfast this morning so as we live locally Mum came back to ours in SB so we could make her something after check out, prior to train back to London. Cleaner was lovely, helpful and apologetic. However when advertised as B n B that's what you quite rightly expect to get. Wouldn't stay again unfortunately, but with a few tweaks and more personalisation we may recommend. Recommended by a friend who owns a B n B in Ripponden, but as they were on hols booking with them was not possible.
O dear what a disappointment. After visiting The Lion quite a few times recently and having a great experience this time things seem to have slipped? I rang up and booked or favourite table - it hadn’t been reserved 🤕. The fire hadn’t been started and it was so cold 🥶. We ordered a pizza and it arrived with a completely different topping to what was ordered without an explanation - then when asked Nathan said o sorry we’ve ran out of that!!🤕. I asked the waitress if there was a reason the fire hadn’t been started - she said o Nathan was supposed to do that - he must have forgotten 🤷♂️. Very disappointing.
Just been for a meal here. Considering Ripponden is probably 50 miles from nearest sea port they have the freshest sea food here. Definitely 5 star as in quality, value and choice. As a food person the steak was tremendous, highly recommended. We will definitely visit again and recommend. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely place.
We recently stayed at The Lion for one night, in the suite. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful upon arrival. The suite was well equipped, clean and pleasant. The shower was great - powerful and enjoyable. I really like the way the continental breakfast was delivered in a picnic basket on your door step at night. The breakfast contained a yogurt, breakfast bar, apple, orange, croissant, 2 biscuits, porridge and a bottle of orange juice each. The bed was really comfortable and we got to sleep very quickly, until we were woken up by the boiler in the room at 2am! It fired up evey hour and in between at times, when what we can only think to be other people in the building using the hot water. This was a huge let down, hence only 3 stars. We had very little sleep and had a 2 hour drive home the next day. We would not stay in the suite and spend the extra money again, but we may try one of the other rooms if we were to ever come over to Ripponden again. Avoid the Suite if you don't want a sleepless night!
