Little village pub in the heart of Painswick, real ales, open fire and a warm welcome, dog friendly inside and out. NO BOOKINGS TAKEN, we work on a first come, first served basis.
We popped into The Oak for lunch on our way home to Bath (after reading good reviews online ). We weren't disappointed. Lovely atmosphere with a warm welcome from the bar manager and an open fire (it was a cold day so this was much appreciated). It was busy on a Fri afternoon and it's not a big pub, so we were lucky to find a table for two. The front of house guy/manager was excellent 👌 He was working alone taking orders, serving behind the bar and waiting tables and he did it all with a smile and courtesy. Food was delicious!!
My wife and I visited for Sunday roast. Walk-ins only, no booking. The place was full, but the next available table was quickly cleared and cleaned for us. We only waited 5 minutes. The menu is on the wall, order at the bar. Service was prompt. Roast lamb was excellent, and portions were generous. Desserts are also very good. Staff were efficient and friendly, there was a nice atmosphere, and sensible prices. Would thoroughly recommend this place.
Eminent place to enjoy a genuine old publican/free house. 10+ different beers and ciders on the tap, both local and import. A very serious selection of wines and drinks. None mention, none forgotten 😜 The absolutely most friendly staff and patrons. Friendly locals and a homely atmosphere. Came back in the evening for food. Deliciously prepared dishes and for a small pub, a quite large menu. The pride of Painswick and the Cotswolds!
The Oak is a lovely pub which has both indoor and outdoor seating, is dog friendly, serves great food and offers amazing service. The man who served us the two nights we stayed in Painswick was super helpful and friendly. I can highly recommend the fish and chips. The reason for the four stars and not five is that the prices for some things were so expensive. A glass of Prosecco is £9, a chicken salad with some quinoa was £17, and a side dish of four tiny southern fried chicken strips is £8.50.
Beautiful local pub, the only one in town so you don’t have much choice, but the hosts are lovely and welcoming. The food was great, we had the burgers and two pints.
