About us

In the winter the pub offers a warming retreat from the outside cold with its log fire and “tucked away" feel, while in the summertime you'll discover the pub's “hidden treasure", a sheltered sun-trap of a garden complete with lovingly-tended plants and shrubs and even a well-stocked fish-pond – an ideal location for a late-afternoon Pimms or weekend barbecue. or relax in our street-side seating to the front of the pub and while away an hour or two watching the world pass by.

The Golden Cross is a popular venue for those living in or visiting Cirencester, retaining the traditional welcome of an historic coaching inn while offering a wide range of choices for discerning guests and travellers.

As the pub's motto states, The Golden Cross Inn is indeed “so much more than a back street pub".

Entered pub at 1.20pm was seated at table 1.30pm as booked. Nobody came to serve us until 2pm that was because we enquired then waitress was abrupt. Food arrived 2.45pm - only because yet again asked where it was. Food was tasty but Luke warm. The bill arrived and they tried charging us for drinks not purchased. Customer service 1/10. Waiters/WaItresses didn’t seem to have a clue .

Right in the town centre. Nice dog friendly pub serving snacks and food. Happy hour from Mon to Fri till 18,00. Selected pints for £4, ales for £3,50 and 10% off in wine.

We had an amazing Sunday lunch here last weekend. From the moment you step foot in The Golden Cross, the customer service is exceptional. The Sunday roast was the best roast I've had. Everything was cooked to perfection, with highlights being the creamed leeks, whole carrot cooked with star anise and succulent meat (I went for the trio, belly pork, beef and chicken). The pub is warm and welcoming, and the cleanliness is top-notch. Dog friendly and located centrally in the town. Definitely ranks up there with some of the Michelin Star restaurants I've eaten at!

Had Sunday lunch with a friend there yesterday. The service was warm, friendly, attentive. The food, well, let's just say, it was by far the best Sunday roast I've ever had! So much so I thanked the chefs, Matt and Giles. Not only great team, very unassuming and took the time to chat. My only complaint is that i haven't been sooner and I'll definitely be going back, hungry for more. Also, dog friendly, lovely court yard and they Sell Guiness and Starapraman. An all round 5 star thumbs up from me and my mate 😊

The price is good for food, but the beer is off (murky). And I tried both pints on tap. The food is odd in that what you get is not what you would expect. Thai fish curry turned out to be a big piece of fried fish with rice and a smear or two of some kind of paste. Tasty, just not what you would expect as a curry. Needs some attention to the menu and beer pumps and pipes need cleaning out properly.
