About us

"Welcome to The George"

We are so pleased to be open again and we are really enjoying welcoming friends old and new back to The George. As well as our indoor seating areas, we now have a lovely covered area in our secluded courtyard, that does have heating for those chilly evenings alongside four picnic style benches that enable you a birds eye view of our beautiful High Street.

You are welcome to just walk in to visit us or if you wanted to make any reservations, please feel free to contact us on 01580 880315 or why not send us an email to info@thegeorgerobertsbridge.co.uk.

Standing with pride in the village of Robertsbridge, we have now restored this former 18th Century Coaching Inn into a dog friendly village pub which serves home cooked food and drinks using the best local suppliers we have in this area.

Located near the fabulous towns of Hastings, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Battle and with four lovely bedrooms as part of Sawdays Special Places to Stay and The Good Hotel Guide, The George is an ideal base from which to explore the diverse counties of Kent and Sussex. We are surrounded by various National Trust properties, beautiful gardens, quaint villages and not forgetting our wonderful 1066 historic coastline. After the time we have all experienced, why not treat yourself to an escape away from it all and let us look after you?

We have our own car park in front of The George and additional free parking is available in the High Street. The train station is a short 10 minute walk away, providing direct access to London Charing Cross as well as Royal Tunbridge Wells, historic Battle and the coastal towns of Rye and Hastings. We also welcome cyclists and we have a bike rack at the front of the building as well as secure storage for bikes if you are staying overnight.

Our four legged friends on leads are also very welcome throughout The George, (although not upstairs for overnight stays unfortunately) and there is always a clean bowl of water available.

We look forward very much to welcome you all to The George, our family business based in the heart of 1066 County and please do call us if you have any questions about coming to see us.

My father and I came here in for dinner this evening. I had the Pan Roasted Chicken, Wrapped in Bacon with Mash and Crispy Kale, and my father had the Seafood Linguine. Both also had the Apple and Blackberry Crumble. The food here is phenomenal. Everything was really tasty, flavoursome and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere in the pub is wholesome; plenty of young families and happy chatter. The waitstaff are also incredibly helpful and lovely. 10/10 would recommend and will be coming back!!

I went to the George Inn for lunch. Food was good and staff/service were friendly and professional. I'm vegetarian and my daughter is vegan, gluten free so options were limited for me and there really wasn't anything my daughter could've eaten had she been there, so it might be nice if they could cater for different dietary requirements, but I realise that can be restrictive especially if the menu isn't lengthy. A nice meal though.

Friday evening, two days before Christmas, we're hungry and thirsty and find ourselves some way from home. Not having planned to eat out, we've not booked anywhere, so what are our chances of finding somewhere to eat? Well, we struck gold! Lovely welcoming staff, a great atmosphere (busy and cheerful without being overly noisy) we were seated in a cosy corner, and were served promptly. The food arrived super quick and was nicely presented and beautifully cooked. Thank you for a great experience, shame we couldn't have stayed longer but we'll definitely be back. Merry Christmas!
