We met friends for an impromptu lunch.. There was a warm welcome, the staff were attentive without pestering. The food was delicious and served, quickly and hot. Would recommend to anyone. Can't wait for warmer weather so we can eat outside looking at what is possibly the prettiest village in Essex.

3 of us popped in for a saturday lunch - not booked but warmly welcomed & a table found promptly even though they were busy & expecting a large table shortly. A nice cushion was offered to make my chair easier to sit on as still on crutches after my knee op. Drinks order taken straight away & had time to take a good look at the menu before ordering. We chose 3 very traditional pub dishes to taste. And all were great. Cottage pie was steaming hot, other 2 were hot enough although the chips, mash & sausages on those two could have been a little hotter for perfection( they were possibly waiting for mine to heat through). Beautiful orange egg yolks, ham & sausages nice too. Very good service and lovely pub. We tried the Gavi and a Chardonnay & there was a good choice of other wines. Absolutely will be back & will reserve next time ! Busy, bustling lovely atmosphere where the staff were professional, friendly & helpful. Looking forward to returning with friends and family ⭐️

Greeted by friendly staff in a lovely setting. Good, classic menu. Gf options available and the food did not disappoint. I had the burger, which was a proper steak burger. The chunky chips are very chunky indeed. Dog friendly area too. Thanks

Good service, nice atmosphere and tasty food. Good portion size for the roast dinner on a Sunday. The only downside to our visit is that we were next to the front door on a table for 2 and every time someone came in the cold air kept hitting us. I'd perhaps suggest a draft curtain of some sort to prevent this from happening as it slightly ruined it for us as we couldn't warm up.

Beautiful location & building (16th century) The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We didn't book a table and walked in on the off chance... So glad we did. Can't fault anything. Food wise I highly recommend the pork belly with colcannon and creamed leeks, also the hand made steak burger. The menu reads really well and can't wait to return and try some more.
