The Fox & Hounds is a family run pub welcoming well behaved children and pets. We serve morning coffee and afternoon teas as well as lunches and evening meals from our extensive Bar Menu...and we are in the most perfect location!
West Burton is one of the most beautiful and peaceful villages in the whole of the Yorkshire Dales, with its traditional stone built cottages bordering the vast village green where children can safely play on the swings whilst the adults enjoy a relaxing drink at The Fox & Hounds Inn and take in the fantastic views.
The village has its own hidden waterfalls which are surely one of the most popular subjects for photographers coming to Wensleydale (see photo on the right) and in summer provide the most perfect swimming pool for locals and holidaymakers alike.
To the locals, The Fox & Hounds Inn is, essentially, their local pub at the centre of their community and where they come to relax after a hard day’s work. Visitors, too, appreciate our good selection of hand pulled ales and we are pleased to note that The Fox & Hounds is included in:-
The AA Pub Guide
The Hidden Inns of Yorkshire
The Inn Way publications (*we are situated on that very popular walking route)
... and many others
We are close to:-
Bolton Castle
The Black Sheep Brewery
Wensleydale Creamery
...and the many market towns that make up North Yorkshire.
West Burton, itself, is home to the well known Cat Pottery, picture gallery...and butcher’s shop where the sausages are a great souvenir to take home.
Join us soon at The Fox & Hounds Inn!.

Spotlessly clean room, friendly and welcoming staff, cozy pub, perfect location, lovely home cooked food - nice pint or two of snowflake, can't fault.
The food we had was fine; steak and ale pie tasty, slightly peppery. Gravy delicious. Beer was good. Sarcasm from a staff member to another customer unwarranted and unwelcome, and tainted what was otherwise a good visit.
Went here for a pub dinner and it did not disappoint. Food came out quite quickly, wonderfully hot and tasty. They even offered dessert but there was no room left after such a glorious meal. Would definitely go again if we're in the area.
A great little village pub we popped in for drinks whilst visiting the waterfall. Reasonably priced. The lunch menu, special menu and dessert menu all very reasonably priced. We didn't eat but all the food that others had looked lovely and we are hoping to pop back and have food if we get time!
Lovely stay for our first trip away with our new puppy. Friendly staff, comfortable and very clean dog friendly room. Nice place to sit with drinks outside the pub overlooking the village green. Evening meal was great, and good value. Lovely breakfast too. Beautiful village with nice walk to the waterfall just a few minutes away. Many thanks.
