Upon entering this establishment one is immediately greeted with warmth. No, not from the fire blazing in the grate (although, granted, that does give off some convective pleasance), but from the radiant bar staff who upon glimpsing a thirsty traveller at their ancient threshold immediately spring into action pouring all sorts of delicious locally brewed beverage into freshly polished glasses adorning the bar. At the time of our visit one kindly local steered us toward the correct drinks, which did not include 'Branoch' for reasons unknown. We drank and otherwise indulged and generally made merry with our kinfolk, and in the end made a barter for some more firewood for the reasonable price of a rum and coke before spilling into the cold night, loose and satisfied. Highly recommended.

An old-fashioned local pub that hasn't changed much over the last twenty odd years when I've occasionally visited it. The food is not fancy but very good, the locally brewed beer is excellent, and the staff are efficient and friendly. It really is like stepping back into simpler, more honest times. The parking's difficult though. (If you're heading out of Branscombe, you need to fork left before the pub and look for the modest parking area on the right just in front of the pub.)

Brilliant pub! Tucked away, walking distance from Branscombe. Fab staff, very welcome to help out. Great food, has kids menu and is super dog friendly.

Wow! This is an amazing pub and I would fully recommend it to anyone in the village or visiting and it’s the best in Branscombe. Here are some of the amazing positives about the place: - Dogs are allowed outside and there is undercover seating. I also believe there allowed inside but not fully sure. - There is table service with good waiters. - A good restroom, but could with updating really. - Good prices. The pub has so many positives and no negatives really! They do a good specials menu and desserts. I would 100% recommend this pub to anyone. Thank you.

Historical building dating back centuries, although this particular incarnation looks Edwardian. The outside belies the traditional inside, with plain frontage, but a large open log fire and well worn flagstones produce a wonderful atmosphere for weary walkers, families and the odd football fan or two who wanted to watch the England games on a telly erected in the beer garden (this is not a sports bar). Outside seating is on solid wooden chairs, positioned around large tables, easily seating six people around each, and a quirk to their position is that a bridleway has right of access through the middle, suggesting an ancient route to this amazing pub. Beer is excellent, using Branscombe Brewery ales and ciders, which has produced small scale local ales since 1992. Wicked Weasel cider @4.7% is a true drinker's cider, albeit marginally strong, whose taste is a lovely reminder of licking cider ice lollies after school on hot summer days. The food looks gorgeous every time it appears, with exceptional taste and portion size, my only criticism being that it's priced slightly high. However, if you don't want to eat and snack instead there's a variety of crisps, pork scratchings, chocolate bars and nuts on offer. Payment can be made by cash or card. Altogether a fantastic little find, sitting nicely between campsites, airfield, beach and A3052. Parking can be difficult in a small, gradiented, rustic carpark, but I've seen cars parked in the field next door, although don't know if this is official. Give it a go as I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as us.
