OUR PUB
Open today 11am - 11pm
In the tiny hamlet of Holt Pound, just a stone's throw away from the idyllic Alice Holt Forest, stands the charming Ball and Wicket country pub. The pub’s name alludes to its local cricket heritage and position on a disused cricket pitch, known locally as “the oval”, where many important Surrey games took place. The Farnham cricket club used this pitch as their residence before moving to a newly created pitch near the moat of Farnham Castle, leaving Holt Pound available to other clubs and locals to play cricket until it was abandoned shortly after the first world war. The neighbouring Alice Holt Forest, once predominantly an ancient oak forest supplying timber for the royal navy, boasts huge conifers and forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park. The beautiful wooded scenery surrounding the Ball and Wicket makes for an ideal setting for a long peaceful afternoon stroll in the great outdoors, followed by a heart-warming meal and a pint of cask ale.

Highly recommend for any event! We used the whole upstairs area and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, we could come and set up in the day and arrange things as we wanted, reasonable pricing and great location with a big car park! Was nice to have our little dog with us to set up too Thank you everyone who was there!

First, I’m American. I’ve struggled with the food in the UK. Finally I had an amazing meal! I had the smothered chicken. So good! For others that aren’t used to the culture where you spend the evening enjoying dinner, this is a place where they let you really take your time. We waited a really long time between courses and after we finished. I think it’s a culture thing. In the US, most restaurants hurry you out. We just needed to eat and go. Our server didn’t stop by enough for us to let her know we needed to go. But the food, SO GOOD!

Came back for a roast today and it was absolutely fantastic the portion you get for the price is amazing. crina the head chef knows how do to do a brilliant roast. Fergus our waiter was absolutely lovely super friendly and happy to help and certainly made us feel welcome. We were seated somewhere where we could still have the push chair which was nice as some places it is difficult.

Had the most amazing steak and ale pie at the Ball and Wicket tonight! Asked for cheesy mash as a side and it was delish! Luke our waiter was fab and made sure we were well looked after. Will definitely visit again soon.

The Ball and Wicket has several very positive characteristics which make it one of our faves. As you arrive you find a huge car park with lots of space even when the restaurant is full. Inside the tables are spaced to allow a private conversation if desired. Menus are updated on a weekly basis to offer fresh seasonal fare. The Sunday roast menu offers very generous portions of delicious food for a very reasonable price. Service is attentive without being constantly intrusive. All menu items have a helpful calorie estimate
