About us

Upper Swaledale is one of those places that once you discover, you never want to leave.

It is completely unspoilt, with quaint villages nestled between the hills and the scenery is just breathtaking.

At the Farmers Arms, our philosophy, like those who have gone before us, is to preserve its history, traditions and atmosphere.

Step inside and find a stone flagged floor & our unique dry stone wall fireplace, beautifully kept real ales, some from our very own microbrewery, try the likes of Farmers Shepherdess, or Crackpot IPA, if your a lager drinker our popular Farmers Draft Ewe is a must.

Freshly cooked food and a very warm welcome from our small, but perfectly formed team.

You won’t find a mobile phone signal or Wi-Fi, loud music, TV screens or gaming machines.

Muddy boots and well behaved dogs on leads are always welcome.

We are family friendly but please respect our size and environment.

We only serve food which is freshly made so at busy times there may be a wait, we work on a first come first serve basis at all times, however bookings may be made for larger parties.

Walking groups are very welcome but please let us know in advance so we can try to make sure we are adequately staffed.

I’ll never understand the negative reviews, the bloke who owns it is a top guy, really looked after us. We had an incredible dinner, followed by drinks and then came back on the Sunday for an amazing Sunday dinner. Absolutely recommend to anybody passing through or staying nearby.

Excellent food, beer, service and hospitality. The pub's sway towards being a food serving establishment means it's lost some of its traditional pub atmosphere. However, it's still a great place to have food and drinks after a day hiking.

Lovely little pub located in Muker in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales ...Probably more a gastro pub than a traditional public house but none the less full of charm and serves very good food indeed at very reasonable prices. Local beers on tap . Landlord and landlady very welcoming . Booking advised to avoid disappointment if it's food you are after .

Popped in for a pint in the garden. It was a sunny and warm Saturday, so super busy. It was clear that they were a bit stressed with the amount of custom they had to deal with but that's no excuse for being sullen and abrupt with customers. I guess there must be plenty more enjoyable aspects to running a pub other than dealing with customers.

Went for Sunday Lunch. Food was lovely, desserts of sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble where just as good. It seemed very busy and with only three staff working (chef, barman and waitress) the service was very good and efficient. Will be back.
