Best food this side of London. Recommend the short rib, so tasty and tender, the best veg with it. My other half had the fish and chips and again the haddock was in a lovely light batter and so fresh. Triple cooked chips also the best. There is nothing I can fault. The friendliness of staff is lovely and the setting also is very relaxing and comfortable. Iā€™m going to have to say this again but the best pub/food outside London and I have tried so many. Please give this a chance.

Situated on the now old A120 (B1256) in Little Canfield a stones throw from Takeley so easy to find The Lion and Lamb has long been a villiage pub, as I remember it more pub than restaurant the food was average and the place was looking tired. The good news is that now it appears to be under new management and the new owners have invested in the place . Place now looks clean, bright, and modern both inside out without losing that country pub rustic feel Restaurant has great views of the Essex Countyside, the rear terrace would be a great place to eat alfresco, weather permitting. The menu was varied and interesting with some great meals on offer The 4 small plates and 4 mains we ordered were delicious, I would happily recommend the food to anyone, very, very nice Service was spot on, and prices were reasonable Nice place, nice location, great food, recommended šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

Old pub that has been updated to a high standard, large patio area at the back with modern look and feel inside. Large car park to the side. Field views to the back. Had IPA pint and Roija 175ml which cost Ā£11.35. Next time will try the food.

Great pub and restaurant. Well looked after characterful building, food top (including Sunday Roast), and service available and respectful. Enough staff on to not be rushed off their feet and forget to be courteous! Will be back. Plenty of space between tables. Felt like a more sophisticated dining experience. Expect to pay a little more these above average offerings!

Excellent country pub with great selection of beers by Greene King, and other drinks too including soft drinks. We dropped in mid-afternoon on a Sunday and it was extremely busy, but it was a pleasant day and we were able to sit outside in their beautiful courtyard area and order food and drinks at the bar. There is ample seating, and I liked that there were different styles of seating outside, so rattan armchairs for drinkers, and more upright garden tables and chairs, and bistro sets for diners. We enjoyed the roast pork, and the beef burger which was excellent! I particularly enjoyed the beef brisket that comes within the burger, and melty cheese. The meat patty was exceptional and pink. Staff were very friendly and helpful despite it being packed out for Sunday roasts! It is a beautiful pub, dog friendly, and a good amount of parking. Booking recommended.
