After a long trying day our eating, drinking and stay over in the car park in our camper van at the Bricklayers Arms was a tonic to lift the soul. Liz (proprietor and chef) and son Will made us incredibly welcome as did the friendly locals. If you arrive on the evening of the first Thursday of the month as we did, you can take advantage of the “Shear and beer” offer of a pint and a haircut from a local travelling hairdresser for the very reasonable sum of £13 (prices may vary if reading this in a few years time). Clearly very popular with the locals and a very civilised way of getting your hair cut. The food is very definitely “home made” and fresh and you can taste the difference to the usual reheated in a microwave fare. Self contained Motorhome owners are welcome to stay for free overnight in the car park with the obvious proviso that they enjoy the excellent hospitality offered by the pub. The location is incredibly quiet overnight, unlike many of the larger club sites that are usually near a busy highway. Our thanks to Liz, Will and the cast of locals who made for such a memorable stay. Regards Nic & Helen
A lovely village pub with friendly staff. We had Sunday lunch here, it was superb. The lamb was lovely and tender. A fantastic selection of vegetables. We were so full, but made room for the homemade desserts. So good. My mum said it was the best roast she's ever had and she's had a lot in her time.
Thank you for the warm welcome. they have delicious beers. as campers we felt welcome here. thank you from the two German campers couple
Beautiful little village pub, fantastic setting with very friendly staff, we visited as part of a Morris dancers trip on a coach, great beer as well.
We stopped here as a motorhome stopover before reaching the Harwich ferry next day. What a warm welcome by the owner and staff. We all had carvery and it was the best we have had for a long time! Fresh, local produce, meat cooked to perfection, potatoes straight out of the ground... Good quality and super tasty! The motorhome sat fairly level at the back of their ample car park with views over the fields in this quiet English Town. I love to recommend good places to visit and this is one of those... Going to Harwich? Have a stop-off here! You won't regret it..
