About us

El Vino, was founded in 1879, then known as Bower and Co. It become an iconic part of the fabric of the City of London in the years that followed.

It was in 1879, when Queen Victoria was on the throne, and horses ruled the road, that Alfred Louis Bower started as a wine merchant on Mark Lane, in the City of London. A Tasting room was set up at the Mark Lane premises, which swiftly developed into a wine-bar, becoming a hotspot for wine lovers across the City.

The success of this venue led to the opening of a further four wine-bars in the City and West End. The Fleet Street bar, our flagship, was in fact converted from a hall of mirrors, and we maintain to this day that spending too long in there may cause you to start seeing double…!.

Italian waiter was really rude and made us feel uncomfortable. At least 10 better places to drink/eat within 200 metres of this place

Luca is the best barman in the City - really friendly, goes out of his way to help and pours the best pint of Guinness in London. This is a hidden gem in the city - well worth a visit!

Been coming here for ages. Luca has been one of the best staff I have met in hospitality world. He would go above and beyond. Is so warm and would take extra care always. I only come for the amazing service he gives us!!

My friend and I were screamed at and abused by the owner/waiter of this establishment. We were enjoying a beer at the lovely pub next door when the waiter from El Vino Masons Avenue restaurant came out and screamed at everyone to move. We politely agreed to move one step over where the waiter took my friends drink out of his hand and screamed at us. I have never seen such behavior at a City of London establishment. A real shame as we were going to eat dinner at El Vino Masons Avenue. Avoid at all costs.

The owner or staff rudely abused me and my m8s who were just resting our glasses from the (far superior) pub next door. This would have been understandable had there been a large gaggle of customers without a table, but the place was (unsurprisingly) a ghost town. We politely said we would move to which we were met with aggression and more rudeness. A real shame. A blight on such a wonderful and historic avenue.
