Went there for drinks... and then dinner, but the kitchen was closed! On a Saturday evening! Beer was mediocre... it was claimed to be an IPA, but was sadly disappointing. Old and historic pub, but everything else was... sad.
Friendly, welcoming pub in the city center. Open fire which is lovely. Right by the cathedral (so convenient for the Christmas Market). They do food but I haven't eaten there. Always a friendly crowd (unless it's really quiet, which occasionally is - but then it's really lovely to sit and relax).
We have been calling in to the Eclipse Inn for nearly 20 years. Its a lovely little unspoilt British pub warm and cosy in the winter and cool in the summertime. Great well kept ale, cider and a good wine selection. We have never eaten there.
We have not visited The Eclipse since pre COVID days. It's a super pub , with a great atmosphere, nice to be able to relax and enjoy a few drinks and eat some very good food. Not very busy when we arrived for lunch, but gradually got busier. The Staff were very good. Quick service, hardly any time to wait for our food.
It had been many years since we visited The Eclipse as it is always so crowded but today it was empty when we arrived. The decor and atmosphere, including the ghost, is great. The barmaids were welcoming, friendly, and chatty. We liked the 60s music playing. When it finally arrived, after a 45-minute wait, the food (one burger, one sausage and mash) was delicious. That is why I knocked off a star: the menu warned if you ordered a meat pie, there would be a 25-minute wait but failed to say: 'if you order anything else, it will take twice as long'. A couple who arrived after us received their food before we did. At one point, I saw the chef pop out for a ciggie so maybe that was part of the delay.
