About us

Whiting and Hammond’s most southerly gastro pub.

In the wake of The Mark Cross’s hugely successful opening, we were next approached by Enterprise to take over this enthralling inn, which we gladly did in December 2007. Located on the outskirts of Eastbourne in Langney, the Farm is a more urban environment than many of our other locals.

Dating back to medieval times, it is the oldest and largest pub we have acquired to date, benefiting from a unique open kitchen. As a fully functioning farm up until the early 1980s, many of the pub’s original beams and walls are still in place today and it hasn’t lost any of that charm. Before the early 20th century, Friday Street was also the only access road to and from Eastbourne, making the pub an important local landmark through the centuries.

The events at the Farm are truly something to behold. Not least of these is our Burns Night celebration, which boasts a 10-piece Scottish pipe band and full oration and is always a hugely successful crowd-pleaser. Our ‘Mezzanine’, which we refer to as the Gallery, is the perfect place to hold private functions for up to 50 guests, while also providing an ideal setting for numerous annual celebrations.

Despite its size, however, the place is full of cosy corners and quiet areas that allow for smaller groups or more romantic occasions. With our trademark pan seared fillet of sea bass served on a crayfish, rocket and Parmesan risotto heading up our mouth-watering menu, there is always a good excuse to fill both your evening and your stomach with our delectable dinners and amazing ale selection.

We are also particularly proud of our senior management team here at the Farm, who have been showered with an assortment of accolades for their efforts. In 2009, the honour of South East Managed Pub of the Year was bestowed upon them at the Morning Advertiser Great British Pub Awards, as well as a finalist position for Managed Pub of the Year at the Great British Pub Awards, which it was also recognised for in 2011.

For lovers of local legend, we also have a number of ghost stories that are sure to give you goosebumps, the most renowned of which is about an old stable girl named Rosie, whose spirit has supposedly been occupying the Farm for over a century. We haven’t spotted anything yet, but stranger things have most certainly happened.

The venue is really lovely and the staff can't do enough for you. I arranged a joint birthday party here recently and I had my musician friend, Rick Bonner provide the entertainment and it went down really well. His first time performing there but hopefully not his last as everyone had a fab evening and really enjoyed the music, even people who was not part of our party group was dancing and having lots of fun. Great evening, thank you.

Where to start... My second review of this place was that it was finally the day of my wedding! First off I want to thank and commend all the staff that helped, catered, served and cooked, all of you helped make our day even more special, the staff truly deserve a reward for putting up with my lot! ☆The place itself is picturesque, stunning decor, homely and cosy. I absolutely adore it! Always a perfect atmosphere ☆The food was delicious, and not one thing went wrong, gluten and dairy free options as well as vegan suited for all my guests on a menu specially catered to and for us, all the guests enjoyed it & the portions were marvelous! I have nothing but love and fondness for this place and highly recommend it not just as a venue but as a lovely warm place to go for a scrummy meal and beautiful atmosphere, attentive staff, absolute perfection! And to all of those who worked on the 30th of October for our wedding & to Emma for helping organise it all, thank you ever so much!

We went out as a family of 7. The food took 30 minutes or longer, and the burgers were somewhat frozen. The chips are massive and frozen. The veggies were not cooked for the pie. The burger salad was dry and u only got two small peppers and 1 half of a small cucumber. The burger was like dog meet. And the children’s fish things were just scraps of fish. The fish and chips for not the children’s was just crisp barely no fish at all. The mash was lumpy and the egg was over cooked in some parts and undercooked in others. The big stake was tiny. And the gravy tasted wired. Service was somewhat okay. But not the best. The tea looked like poo water. For the money I wouldn’t recommend, all of us had stomach aches afterwards
