Stayed in Cotswold over NYE, and decided to have lunch here on Nye. Great location in the centre of Bourton-on-the-water. However, my partner and I ordered the fish and chips. It was honestly the worst fish and chips we’ve ever had, I didn’t know you could go wrong with such a simple meal. It was completely tasteless, zero flavour. The batter on the fish tasted like cardboard. Dosed it all in tuns of salt and vinegar which didn’t help much. Tartar sauce was disappointingly in a sachet, not even the good stuff. I wouldn’t eat here again. Can’t comment on rooms as we didn’t stay here. **UPDATE since restaurant replied** If any of your staff had bothered to ask if our meal was ok, we would have mentioned the blandness, however customer service did not follow after the meals were put on the table. Also, our car parking was running out as the ‘fish and chips’ took 40mins to come out, so the last thing we wanted to do was wait another 40mins for a tasteless replacement. (It’s hard to go wrong with a standard meal like fish & chips but you did, so I’m not sure I would have wanted to try something else). My reviews are very thorough and honest as you can see from my profile, tarnishing a business is a silly way to look at a review system. This is what reviews are for. Do better next time if you do not want bad reviews is all I can say. Happy New year to you too.
Location was perfect, and the staff were always attentive and warm. There was an issue though with the heater in the bathroom not working properly and privacy concerns(some giggly girls tried to open our door!) Food was average and the coffee was exceptionally weak and lukewarm.
I booked to stay one night at a cost of £95, and I paid the £95 on booking ( some 10 days before the arrival date. My girlfriend ( who was sharing the room ) arrived before me on the arrival day, and was asked for payment of £95. Unaware that I had previously made payment, she paid again. The problem came when I discovered this, the employee was most unhelpful, demanding that I prove that I paid twice and insisting that I get details of someone else ‘s bank account Upon suggesting that I am unable to access someone else,s bank details I offered to check the pub bank account. I explained that I was unable to provide all information and theese reasons. The lady then hung up the phone. The stay at the pub was bed enough without this!! We received a knock on the door at 8 am to be asked to get out of bed at 8.15 in the morning to allow the tv engineer into our bedroom. This was not a relaxing way to start our day, and no apology was given . The coffee with breakfast was quite the worse I have ever received , totally undrinkable and not recognisable as coffee. To date we have still received no refund and will now report the matter to local Trading Standards Dept. By a long way the worst experience ever in a UK pub.
Went for Sunday lunch today with friends. Lady chef not very amenable. Presentation disappointing. Only 1 and half bits of meats. 2 dry roast potatoes..watery veg. It wasn’t like a lot of people eating a roast dinner. Website says £9.95 but I was charged £11.95. . Wasn’t worth it and not particularly hot either. Have eaten here before for a carvery. But unfortunately won’t be again.
The staff were lovely, our room was quiet and the breakfast delicious! A beautiful setting, old fashioned building, parking for residents. Perfect!Thanks to everyone there.
