An 1897 pub notable for its fancy glazed tiles, once frequented by John Constable and George Orwell.
Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.
Many famous historical figures have enjoyed the hospitality of The Dog and Duck, including John Constable, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and George Orwell. Our pub was originally built in 1734 on the site of the Duke of Monmouth's home. The present building was built in 1897, and is considered to have one of London's most exquisite interiors of the period, characterised by thousands of highly glazed tiles.
The Dog and Duck is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Very good Soho Nicholson's pub on the corner of Bateman Street and Frith Street. Five cask beers - and one cider - on handpump when I last visited. Lots of covered standing room outside. The Dog and Duck has been identified by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA}) as having a nationally important historic pub interior. It has some great advertising mirrors and lovely tile work. Very busy when we visited but quick service made it manageable.
I booked a table for lunch today and I'm so glad I did. This charming little pub was clearly one to visit and seemed popular with others. The food was lovely, fresh and piping hot. The service was excellent and we loved the atmosphere. Our server was a lovely, funny Irish lady who had an excellent rapport with everyone in the restaurant and brightened our day! Cannot recommend this little gem enough!! It's definitely one to visit.
This is a wonderful pub, full of character and very cosy. I ate upstairs in the small dining room where there is also a bar. I'll definitely drink here again.
Very good restaurant which is still quite small with only about fifteen chairs. It is better to book your table in advance but personally luck allowed us to find a table of 5 free on a thursday evening. I highly recommend the "STEAK & NICHOLSON'S PALE ALE PIE". It could also be that the atmosphere is noisy as the bar downstairs is a source of a lot of noise.
