About us

Originally built on the old packhorse route between Bingley and Ilkley, Dick Hudsons began life in an old farmhouse as an inn called The Plough Boy. When Eldwick Road closed, the business was moved to its present site, then called Highgate Farm. Thomas Hudson took over the inn in 1809, but it was during the tenure of his son, Dick Hudson between 1850-1878 that the pub became renowned for it's food and hospitality.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Been here many times over the years and the venue itself is beautiful, lovely old building in beautiful countryside. Real log fires don't disappoint and give a lovely atmosphere. On arriving we were seated on a lovely table with views over the aire valley. In the past we have enjoyed some lovely home cooked good, but unfortunately this visit was very lacking. The macaroni cheese was a small portion that had been warmed up and was dry and crusted, no herb crust as advertised on the menu. I had veg instead of salad / garlic bread. One unpeeled carrot sliced in half and a few warmed up sprouts. My husband had the chicken & pancetta pie, which is not really a pie as such, its a bowl with filling in and a puff pastry top. Same veg, but also some spring onion mash. I mentioned it was a treat for my husbands birthday, but no complimentary drink , cake or biscuit. A small token would have been nice. Overall food was very disappointing, especially compared to what we have had at other visits. They need to improve the quantity, quality & presentation of the food. 😥

Came today with my dad, had a wonderful service from start to finish. The manager on the bar with a new lad that was absolutely smashing it. Then our waitress was amazing. Very smiley and was very good at her job. Overall fantastic service which also went really well with our fantastic meal. Thank you and see you again some time soon

Didn't eat there just got a couple of drinks. . Only just opened up when we got there so not many people about to comment on atmosphere. Just a meeting place before setting off on a walk. Dog friendly, free dog biscuits and water available.

Great pub, nice seating, good portions. Beef and red wine pie is so rich and delicious, can smell the wine immediately the pastry crust is cracked. The chicken schnitzel is yummy too, almost like a parmo.
