About us

The Turf provides a wonderful setting where you can relax and enjoy great food and drinks and friendly service from a family run pub. Clive and Ginny Redfern took over Turf in 1990 and, together with their sons James and Oliver, have continued to renovate and improve this fascinating timber framed slate hung listed building. This is a proper pub. There are no carpets, just pine strip floors making our pub ideal for muddy paws and muddy kids. Both most welcome!

Outside is a very large beer garden and in summer we run our popular BBQ and Bar. There are also two large ‘cook your own’ BBQ’s with their own decks available to hire. Ideal for Birthday or Office Parties, Celebrations or just an excuse to get together with friends.

Thankyou for a lovely evening at your Friday supper club. You were such a friendly and helpful team, which was a bonus on top of a fabulous meal. We especially enjoyed the celeriac and apple soup and the lemon tart with the raspberries. Hope to see you again soon. Having the pick up was an excellent arrangement for us and much appreciated.

Visited for the Friday Night Supper Club. Superb four course dinner - all four courses were excellent, service was friendly, and there was a short but good wine list. Price included minibus transport from local pickup points in villages either side of the Exe estuary. Not cheap but really good value for money. Highly recommended.

Very friendly reception and super lunch. Delicious soup and toastie. St Austell Tribute Pale Ale the works. The geographical situation is unique - at the end of the Exeter ship canal with a few dozen yachts moored outside and NO CARS! It's 16 minutes walk from the car park at the end of Station road Exminster. The building appears to be 18th century and the interior is utterly charming. See photos

Me and my partner decided to visit The Turf very last minute purely due to the location and lovely scenic route we could take by foot. We ordered two roast pork Sunday dinners and the food, service and location was impeccable. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our needs were accommodated. Plenty of seating and the atmosphere was relaxed. We will definitely be returning and this is one of the best roasts we have ever had! Especially the potatoes!

Paddled to the pub for the first time and it was one of our best days paddling yet! The staff we spoke to were lovely. A man who greeted us as we arrived on our board, letting us know what’s best to do with the boards and then two women, one at the bar and one at the hatch, we’re so lovely when we ordered food and drink. Our visit was perfect and we will be counting the days until we are back. Thank you for one of the best days!
