About us

Run by Ben and Sharon Henderson, with the help of Mat Emery, and a small friendly team, in the beautiful setting of The Newlands Valley, just outside of Keswick, in the Lake District, UK.

If you’re a walker, climber, canoeist, or someone who simply likes riding round The Lakes in the car, The Swinside Inn is the place for you. With plenty of parking, and immediate access to numerous easy, scenic, and low level walks, as well as more adventurous climbing routes; very close to Derwentwater, not far from Keswick, our customers visit us again and again. We like to get to know you personally –and we know that, whether you’re staying for a few days, or just grabbing a pint (or two), you’ve probably just had an exciting, exhausting day out, and want to relax, enjoy filling, home cooked grub, without having to remove your walking boots, or worry about what you’re going to do with the dog.

There’s an outside seating area, where you can enjoy the views of where you’ve just been, three bars/dining areas, 2 with open fires, and WIFI. We can accommodate, couples, singles, groups and clubs and families.

We also look after a 12 bed holiday cottage, located on the side of Catbells – perfect for walks to Borrowdale as well as The Newlands Valley.

We ate here early Sunday evening and it was very disappointing. We had the last 2 diet cokes. The meal choices were very slim. Quiet. No atmosphere. Chilly. My roast dinner was served almost cold with no gravy. The chicken pie was average with watery gravy. The vegan burger was good. I heard another customer ask to have their roast dinner reheated next to us. This is not the Swinside Inn we remember from past experiences. Next year we will go elsewhere. We’re going to have dessert but decided not to bother. Seemed short staffed.

Traditional pub with stunning views, good beer garden. Not a huge selection of beers or local ales which was a little disappointing. However, food was very good.

Family evening meal. Steak and Ale Pie = delicious. Kids were very happy with their meals. Wild Mushroom & Rocket pizza = very tasty. Table service was very good. Beautiful old Inn. Highly recommend.

Beautiful location, with views to die for from the beer garden. Stopped for a few drinks and something to eat to warm us up from our wet and windy day out at catbells. Drinks were reasonably priced, as was the food. We had the fungi pizza, which was lovely, and the steak and ale pie with chips, steak pie was great but the chips came out hard, but was replaced with a freshly cooked batch in good time. Well worth a visit, if your in the area. Cant comment on the accommodation as we didn't stay.

Comfortable rooms. Hairdryer needs updating, some more options for teas and caffeine free options would be great. Shower drain was slightly blocked but good water pressure and temperature. Breakfasts were nice but slightly inconsistent day to day with eggs. Also Breakfast starts quite late at 8.30am. Food generally pretty decent but would be great to have more veggie and salad options.
