About us

There has been a pub on this site since 1509 with the Crooked Billet being built in 1776, opening directly on to Wimbledon Common, it's not hard to see why!

A shining example of a country pub in the heart of London.

Wtih roaring log fires to warm and welcome you in the winter, picnics on the common in the summer and excellent food all year round, the Crooked Billet really does have it all

Being a Young's pub, our ales are flawless and we'll always have a seasonal option from honey-infused Waggledance to Winter Warmer.

It was really delicious food and a nice atmosphere sat at the back next to the fire burning. However service was really slow from when we ordered food to it coming, also sat with empty glasses for a while. The table next to us were sat with their dirty plates for a while after eating. There were not enough staff to deal with number of tables, a couple of larger sized tables. Also there were a couple of dishes that were sold out on the menu and special board which was a shame as caused us to change our minds last minute when we were ordering. The service let them down on this occasion.

We often eat here with friends in the evening and We spent Xmas Day here 4 years ago and it was fantastic. Sadly, this year, we can't say the same. I suspect your new chefs are not as good as the old ones. The starters were good although we had to ask for the scallops which arrived 10 minutes after the soup. The Christmas main dinner was, sadly, really poor. The turbot my daughter ordered was so overcooked, she couldn't cut it. Turbot is supposed to fall off the bone. The roast potatoes were soggy and the turkey quite dry. The Christmas pudding was also far too dry. We understand catering for large numbers is difficult, but, for the price we paid, the food should have been a lot better. Hopefully, my feedback will help sort out the problems. Luckily, the champagne kept us content.

Join the club! Stopped off for a quick bite after walking through Wimbledon Common. Great chicken club and Wimbledon cooper leaf ale.

I would not say it’s a gastro pub. We only had snacks whilst kids had their dinner. 4.75 £ for chips and 6£ for few veg sticks with a basic houmous. I wouldn’t recommend the food there unless you just need to get fed.

Great venue, bright and spacious, family friendly. The staff are helpful, but the menu quite limited. Besides the scotched Egg that's served as part of the ploughman's sharer, we weren't very impressed with the food. The pub should definitely offer the scotched Egg on its own as it's delicious. The crooked Billet Burger was bland and the double patties had no moisture. The accompanying fries were well cooked though, great crisp on the outside. The fish pie was extremely salty, way over seasoned, I would give that a big miss. Would happily return for a drink but will think twice about dining.
