This review is about the pub, not the hotel. Eight adults (four couples) plus one baby met for lunch on a midweek afternoon just after Christmas 2023. It was crowded but not heaving. Our reservation was for 1.00 and we were told we would have to vacate by 2.30. Our starters arrived at 2.05, leaving us 25 minutes to eat our starters, be served our mains, eat them, order, receive, and eat puddings, have any coffee, request and receive the bill. Can you see anything wrong with this? When it eventually arrived, the food was very good. We saw other tables get their food long before us. We didn't have puddings or coffee. I felt sorry for the servers as we certainly didn't leave a tip. The pub did apologise for the delay and took 25% off our bill. However, the worst was yet to come as that evening, two of our party were violently ill and a third the following evening. They all had something different so we cannot say it was food poisoning but we wonder if our food sat somewhere and went off before being reheated and brought out to us. It may have been a bug but was a strange coincidence.

Booked a table for a family lunch. Starters took about an hour to arrive and required reminding the staff. The mains took another hour so we decided to leave without desert. Even then we had to go to the bar to remind them to bring us the bill. The staff were friendly but there were not enough of them, as others have said, management need look at why this is a recurring theme.

Terrible experience. Booked in advance but was seated in a conservatory next to doors normally used to access the outside patio with wind whistling through the gap. Asked if we could be moved to another table but the next table was no better. The outside temperature was -2 that night and not much warmer inside, not helped by the fact that the radiator next to us was turned off. Table next to us had a gentleman not only wearing his coat but a bobble hat as well. Two of our party retrieved their coats because of the temperature and fought over the single rug offered. The food was adequate but overpriced but unfortunately I had ordered sea bass which was cold within moments of receiving. Under staffed, those serving were chasing around all night. On clearing the main course plates we were given the dessert menu. We hadn't seen our friends for a while and chatted whilst waiting for the waitress to return. After 45 minutes this had not happened so we went to the bar and requested the bill. There was a cursory apology that sounded as if this was not an isolated incident. Can't blame the staff, food from the kitchen was ok and the waitresses were working as hard as they could but obviously not enough of them. Management need to get a grip, if you can't provide adequate service or somewhere warm enough to serve them don't take the bookings.

I have stayed in a few pub rooms around the area. This is by far the best, both for quality and value for money. The staff are excellent, they go out of their way to be helpful.

Great experience at the Cromwell Arms. Beautiful family pub with really friendly staff and amazing food. Reallt well maintained and quality from the moment you go through the door. We met up with friends there and grabbed some food for the kids and some chips for us. Food came out quickly and was perfectly cooked. The kids chocolate brownie was amazing and a good size. The decor is really nice and warm. There is a large outside space too with some fantastic looking booths and also tables with heaters. Couldnt recommend this place enough. Will definately be back and woyld also love to try out their rooms.
