This historic coaching house has welcomed weary travellers crossing Bodmin Moor for nearly 300 years. Full of legend, mystery, romance and even, according to folklore, the odd friendly spirit, the Inn continues to welcome guests to its 20 en suite bedrooms, award-winning restaurant, ‘olde worlde’ bars with great local ales and wines, its souvenir shop and the fascinating Smugglers’ Museum where tales of wreckers, murderers and villains are brought wonderfully to life!
The Inn is easily reached being just beside the A30 at Bolventor, midway between Launceston and Bodmin. It is the perfect base for exploring the moor and, being close to the Cornwall and Devon border, it is also a great base for visiting almost anywhere in either county and still be back in time for dinner.
I recently stayed at this hotel for a work trip, and it exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The rooms were excellent—spacious, clean, and well-equipped. The staff was incredibly accommodating, always attentive to my needs. The food was not only tasty but also offered a variety that catered to different preferences. Overall, a fantastic experience for my three-night stay, making it a top choice for future business trips.
Stayed in one of the older rooms above the pub and the room was fantastic. It had everything I needed plus a huge bath, four poster bed and was full of original features and antique furniture. Food was rather average both in the evening and for breakfast. And the hotel receptionist could have been a little more friendly and engaging. But with the farm shop, museum and big souvenir shop on site it's more than just a pub. The pub itself was amazing and bigger than expected, with open fires and so full of history.
Absolutely loved it here! Service was fantastic and our little dog was treated like a VIP guest. We felt well looked after. The food was tasty and huge portions, the building is fascinating and loved meeting other people on the bar and sharing stories. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. Can’t fault the Jamaica Inn. Our first Visit but we’ll be back.
Didn't stay here, just called in for Sunday lunch and a look around the museum. Loved the museum and the lunch was absolutely amazing, the best Sunday lunch we've had for ages. We are both seniors and can't eat big meals, so we ordered the children's meal, we didn't want the child starter and just went for roast turkey and roast gammon, absolutely D E L I C I O U S we were totally stuffed!! I had to leave my roast potatoes and most of my Yorkshire pudding, thank goodness we didn't have the starter!! The pub is fabulous, a wonderful atmosphere and lovely friendly staff, I wish we lived nearer!!!
We visited the bar, museum and gift shop, and I recommend a visit to each! There is a great atmosphere in the bar, the decor is stunning, very original and unique. The museum was interesting. Personally, I preferred the original museum from years ago. The smugglers section was good and informative. However, the section about an author for me personally would not be enough alone for me to recommend a visit. The bar has great character, I did not stay in a room, so I can't comment on a stay or service. However, the staff we spoke to were all friendly, and I do plan to experience an overnight stay! The gift shop is worth a visit, and the location is great! Literally out in the middle of nowhere, absolutely stunning
