About us

The Brendon Arms is a Free House and stocks a range of real ales from the West Country and national brewers renowned for their excellence and accredited by the Cask Marque sign of quality.

The Brendon Arms, Bude's best known Inn, has been owned and run by the Brendon family since 1872. Overlooking Bude's inner harbour and just 200 yards from the unique sea-lock and Summerleaze beach, it occupies a prime position and proudly boasts that it provides "The Warmest Welcome in the West".

The Brendon Arms is a family friendly pub which serves a range of excellent Cask Marque (www.cask-marque.co.uk) accredited real ales from different Cornish producers and national brewers of excellence. We are a Free House where you can expect a fantastic welcome and a great pint. Our friendly staff are trained to make your experience as enjoyable as it could possibly be.

We have a superb range of carefully selected wines available by the bottle or the glass.

Our Inn is perfectly situated with a spacious garden where people can enjoy eating and drinking with a picturesque view of the inner harbour. The sea-lock gates and Summerleaze Beach are at the end of Breakwater Road, just a few minutes' stroll away.

In the Public bar you can play darts or pool or watch Sky and BT Sport which is also available on our outside TV so no-one misses the match. The Brendon Arms has had a long association with, and made significant contributions to, local community activities, such as manning the Lifeboat and supporting the RNLI. Two previous landlords were members of the lifeboat crew and in the days of sail the Brendon family supplied the horses to carry the lifeboat and carriage to the sea at low tide.

The Lounge Bar is named the Lifeboat Bar, and the old Lifeboat House is now self-catering apartments. We regret that dogs are not permitted in the Lifeboat Bar or any of the accommodations. But they are welcome in the Public Bar.

The Inn is decorated with photos of local shipwrecks and nautical antiques.

A large covered and heated seating area is provided outside for smokers, near the outdoor TV. The Public bar has a wheel-chair accessible toilet with baby changing facilities.

Had our Christmas meal here, the staff were friendly and accomodatin and the food was great with some good few options. It was really nicely cooked and good Cornish sized portions.

A great pub next to Bude Canal. Outside seating area overlooking the canal, great for warm sunny days. A busy local with friendly staff and clientèle making you feel at home. Local shipwreck memorabilia is interesting. Sports TV and pool in the bar. The only downside we found was very limited parking outside, 1or 2 vehicles. A P&D is across the road or again limited free parking 200m away. Would visit again if we were passing and could find parking. Thanks.

Chose to have lunch here based on the other positive reviews. We phoned to pre-book a table which seemed the right thing to do as it gets popular here. The bar is split into restaurant and bar meaning we weren't surrounded by people there to watch the rugby. Felt quiet and cosy in our section. We both ate pie of the day which was lamb and mint, really tender and tasty and a healthy portion of chips! Price was very reasonable and what you'd expect from a pub restaurant.

Visited Bude last weekend, the Brendon Arms was recommended to us by a local resident. Lovely pub/restaurant, with friendly and efficient staff. We had two lovely meals, very tasty and generous portions. It was very good value for money. We will definitely visit again on our next trip to Bude.

Stayed here recently in the Elizabeth room. A single room overlooking the front of the pub. The room was tidy and comfy. The bed was excellent! Was a little noisy with late night drinkers, but that's to be expected! Great breakfast in the morning. Service was really friendly and warming. Will stay here again if back in Bude 👍🏻
