About us

The Castle in Castleton is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Is there anything more quintessentially British than a gin and tonic? Well, as we head into the summer months we’ve taken the time to refresh our range to bring you lots of different traditional and contemporary British gins to sample. Combine with a Fever-Tree tonic and you have a match made in heaven. Feeling a bit daring? Try our Very Regal Gin and Ginger and swap your usual tonic water for a ginger ale for a refreshing twist on your favourite gin serving.

We take cask ale seriously at Vintage Inns. So as well as always having Doom Bar on our handpulls, you’ll find a selection of regional ales to sample. Check our chalkboards or ask a member of our team about what’s on today. We also have an array of draught beer and cider including Peroni, Estrella Damm and Aspall Cyder and our fridges are always full of craft beers, familiar favourites and bottled ciders.

Enjoyed our lunch so much 2 weeks ago, after a snowy walk up Mam Tor, that I returned today for pudding and hot chocolate despite the diet. Lovely food, including vegan options which is fabulous. Cosy fires, friendly service and dog friendly. Hospitality doesn’t get better than this.

5* for everything!! We had a great time at The Castle. We didn’t realise we needed to book and one of the staff members managed to squeeze us in! (Thank you). We ordered the sticky Chinese chicken and the prawns and chorizo to start, delicious. Personally, I would have preferred bread on the side rather than it being toasted as it was a little dry. For main we had the lasagne and the Mac and cheese with added beef brisket, this did not disappoint. The staff are so attentive and friendly. Thank you again

The place was lovely and after reading the other reviews I was expecting a really amazing burger. When it arrived it looked great but unfortunately the taste just wasn't there. The burgers themselves were quite dry and burnt and the chips also were more crisp than potato, like eating batter.

This small town in the Derbyshire is a classy English town with lots of beautiful walks and sceneries. It’s peaceful to go there, roam around the town and have soothing views and walks. I would highly recommend visiting this town to feel nature and peace within yourself. This restaurant is based on English culture, very well interior designed and a variety of menu.

- The atmosphere is great with the 19th century pub. - The grill dishes were great (grilled chicken and soup) but I would not recommend the pizzas. Go for the usual pub food. - I visited here twice, once in May and once in Sep 2023. In May, the weather was beautiful and sitting in the backside of the pub was absolutely awesome. - The waiting time was rather too long. We waited for 30 minutes for our food so asked about it and the waitress said ‘it had been only 30 minutes!’. I do not know whether it is the norm here but it did not feel good - the waiting nor her response.
