I visited with three friends during the week, and found a warm and welcoming pub with a good range of draught beers and an interesting looking menu. Service was prompt, courteous and efficient. The food was really excellent, though our only criticism was that the portion sizes (for four strapping lads) could have slightly more generous. However the Pork Belly was first class and the Peanut Butter cheesecake was perfect. We would definitely return and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cosy hostelry close to the A34.
Booked a small birthday meal on Sunday where staff decorated the table with balloons etc we’d given prior. Manager noticed we weren’t happy sitting next to wet dogs in bar area & before we could ask offered a better table in restaurant! Also adjusted bill when chocolate drink wasn’t quite hot enough AFTER replacing it! Faultless food & service you’d want to tip, thank you & see you again Roger & friends
We returned here having stayed five years ago, and returned as it has such a nice cosy atmosphere and location. The hotel rooms are currently undergoing refurbishment and on first impressions they’re fine, but they are in need of TLC and both the mattress and pillows were uncomfortable. The staff and the atmosphere made our stay though - they couldn’t have been more welcoming to us and our dogs - the manageress in particular. Food was lovely and drinks also :) We would definitely come back and look forward to seeing the new rooms.
We stayed here for one night for a visit to Highclere Castle so was very convenient for this. Very nice rooms not particularly large but good for a short stay. Very friendly staff with a warm welcome. We had a spot of lunch, an evening meal and breakfast the food was all very tasty and a selection. Overall would recommend this hotel and restaurants to anyone.
I don’t often leave reviews of places, but this was our first trip to The Carnarvon Arms under new management. It definitely shows.. we have just had a truly delicious and reasonably priced lunch there. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and honestly, I’d really recommend it to anyone. I hope the new team succeed - they certainly deserve to.
