Attractive old stone-built pub with well kept Adnams, Digfield (brewed in village) and guests, real ciders, good helpings of enjoyable home-cooked food (not Sun evening, Mon), cheerful staff, log fire, low beams, flagstones or tile and brick floors, back dining room and conservatory; children and dogs welcome, big garden with play area, pleasant streamside village, nice walks, open all day weekends, closed Mon lunchtime.
Great first pub for us, Meals were a good size, and the atmosphere was great. Good prices
Met up with some friends for an evening meal. Lovely and clean interior and exterior. It was raining but could see a nice beer garden, plenty of seating, well looked after, some areas covered against the weather. The staff were friendly, the menu was pretty good, not big but sufficient choices for each course. It was busy, but we were still well looked after, not rushed or forgotten. A very good ambience, in fact we were the last to leave, as they have a bar area, you are not rushed to leave from the eating area. Would highly recommend 👌
A lovely country pub located in the picturesque village of Barnwell. Only popped in for a pint but will certainly sample the food menu in the near future. Several real ales on usually with one or two from the local Digfield Brewery as they are also located in Barnwell. Nice decor inside and attentive staff, worth a visit.
Overall, we had a really good experience here. We had a party of 16 and the service was excellent, especially for a fairly busy Saturday night. Drinks were great and well made. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. However, the food is what dropped the score to what would have been 5 stars down to a respectable 4. I had a prawn tempura appetizer and a steak. The prawns were nothing special, but were good. The steak was good, but had some burnt crispy things on it and I couldn't identify what they were. Very small portion of chips(fries) came with it. Two in our party had the fish and chips and were woefully underwhelmed. Both said the fish and batter was flavorless. One only consumed about half and was just frustrated by the lack of flavor. I'm not sure how the others in our party fared with their meals. Splitting the bill was a mess too. The last person to pay, had to cover what was left. We like the place and I'm sure we'll be back, but will try some other meals next time. Other positives...the car park is huge and there is lots of seating if you include the outdoor seating area.
This is the second time of visiting this pub, the first time it was fantastic, the second not so fantastic, in fact very disappointed. I know that places struggle to cater when it comes to Mothers Day etc…, I had higher hopes for this place from experience, but No, the same as everywhere else, a limited, drab menu. The food was ok, I could do better at home myself, and I’m no chef. Sorry guys, like everywhere else avoid for a special mass occasion. Not even the front of house staff could turn this one around, as good as they are. But to end on a positive, what a village!
