The Maypole pub has been family run since february, 1982. Originally started by Mario and Christine Castiglione, the pub is now run as a father and son partnership, with Vincent joining in 1988.
Since 1982 the Castiglione’s have tried to keep the pub as traditional as possible, making only minor adjustments where necessary. The focus is very much on quality both with food and drinks, and above all service. It has been described as having “a locals atmosphere within the city centre”.
In September 2009 the Castiglione’s purchased the freehold from Punch making the Maypole one of very few free houses in the centre and able to sell a greater selection of real ales and more importantly more local beers from smaller breweries.
On February 22nd 2012 we celebrated 30 years of the Castiglione family at the Maypole and we also took this opportunity to host our first beer festival in this week, featuring 40 different real ales, mainly micro brewery, many Local several new for the occasion and one,’ Archimedes’, co-brewed at the Milton brewery by Vincent.
The Maypole is tucked away between Bridge street and Jesus green, and is fairly difficult to find, but once found hopefully there are enough reasons to go off piste more often. It is particularly renowned for :-
*Up to 16 real ales on hand pump
*A very wide range of spirits and liqueurs including 30+ single malts
*Superb home made Italian and traditional English dishes
* Our amazing outdoor covered and decked area
*70+ Bottled Beers + Cans
*Over 40 Gins
*Many real Ciders
*Frequent Beer Festivals
*Award winning cocktails
*The friendliest welcome in Cambridge
*20p off a pint for CAMRA members.

I’ve developed an allergy to nightshades which are not part of the 14 listed allergens in the UK and emailed them ahead of time to make sure there would be something I could eat. They were very kind and told me all the things on the menu that would work for me. When I got there, they were careful to write down what I can’t have and checked all the components of the dish I ordered, and made substitutions so I could have a nice meal. Would definitely recommend to anyone with food allergies and their inclusive and considerate service meant a lot to me! Looking forward to visiting again.
Really nice place to grab some food, the burgers are excellent and the staff really friendly. The only thing that let it down was a glass has lipstick still on it and we had to as for clean glass.
Been there for their craft beer selection. Nice & cool variety of IPAs, hoppy, stouts etc. even they have good range of gins. Very cool and friendly atmosphere. Big area for seating inside and outside.service was friendly and professional by knowledgeable staff. Sure try it again
The cheese focaccia was delicious but the side salad was too plain and unflavoured (I would prefer to not have it on the plate than to be added like that). The place is cool the people are amazing and the atmosphere is quite nice.
Very nice pub with lots of outdoor covered seating. In "Tupperware" England, outdoor seating is rare and indoor pubs are usually badly ventilated and thus stuffy and bad for your health. So this bar is a haven. Close to the center. Later in the evening you can park easily not too far away, but come by foot or bike anyway if you can.
