Right in the heart of the Ribble Valley, wholesome food with hearty portions! Perfect finish if you've been up Pendle hill. The staff were lovely and friendly and made us feel right at home. We'll be back soon. It's also dog friendly too, a definite warm welcome and lots of parking too!

Upon the eve of my nephew James' 21st celebration, the Calf's Head Pub in Clitheroe proved a most fortuitous choice. The ambiance, akin to a medieval revelry, set the perfect stage for merriment. Commencing the feast with a starter of deep-fried Brie, a delicacy fit for royalty, mine taste buds were enthralled. As the cold and bitter evening enveloped us, the Werston Whale (fish and chips) emerged as a hearty repast, warming both body and soul. Verily, a memorable night of jubilation and gastronomic delights in the heart of Clitheroe.

We have just come back from a lovely evening meal at the Calf's head. To start, I cannot comment on the rooms of this establishment as this is not the reason for attending. Upon walking in the servers were attentive, sat us down at a table of our choosing in an area which I presume is suitable for dogs as it's the only place the server told us to sit, also wasn't busy at this time. I did book ahead earlier on in the day and mentioned we will be bringing our dog with us and also I would need a gluten free menu. Our server took our drinks order which came promptly and to our satisfaction. Ordered meals which was easy through the same server who sat us and took our drinks menu. The menu was good, great selection, and also catered for gluten free and vegetarian food which had a separate menu. We noticed that the prices were high but then as our meals arrived it was blatant why this was so. Meals were served hot, tasty with lovely flavours, and to a very good portion size. We did see many other servers around and even had a couple of others tend to us, as we finished our meal our plates were taken away and we were asked if we would like desserts which we said yes to, however this is where the service slowed down, we waited a fairly long time 15-20 after our mains had been taken away, with nobody seeing to us and this is where we walked to the bar to pay and leave. We left happy but could have been better if we had finished off with a dessert or maybe even a coffee.

Absolutely fantastic food and great service, big portions but great quality. The waitresses and waiters are extremely efficient and nothing was to much trouble. I couldn't recommend any particular meal as they are all delicious,If I was to I would say the Braised Beef and Peppercorn sauce I really works together. Jonny

Lovely village pub. Huge picturesque beer garden with great food to go with it. I had the braised steak which was cooked just to my liking. The peppercorn sauce was delicious. The chips were chunky, fluffy on the inside and cooked very well. Excellent - would highly recommend visiting when the suns out and sitting outside.
