There seem to be mixed reviews about this place on TripAdvisor etc. which in the main seem to depend on whether the reviewer had frequented it prior to an ownership change. We haven't been before but went for a Sunday roast after a walk at Alfred's Tower. Lovely pub with good ambiance and we found the staff great - warm, welcoming and helpful. The roasts were OK, not very hot when served and the greens were slightly bland but the meat was nice and the veg not overcooked which is always welcome! We had desserts as well which were nice and felt that overall price was reasonable although slightly on the high side for the quality. Overall though, we would go back as the staff made it a nice place to relax for lunch after a good weekend walk and the food was reasonable enough not to put us off although bit of room for improvement.
We really enjoy this country pub. They have a fab roaring fire, great for wet and cold winter days, very welcoming. The food is good too. The staff are friendly and attentive and they serve a great local bitter "Batcombe".
Old fashioned, cosy and full of character. Aways a great stop with the dogs after a long walk. Landlady is very welcoming, and food is delicious - both Sunday roast and midweek.
Fantastico !! First class Ale, along with a top notch Sunday Lunch, All served up in Beautiful period surroundings. The staff make up a splendid orchestra, led by the maestro conductor himself ! (pictured below.) Bravo!!
Perfect example of a country pub. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was incredible at a very reasonable price. Lovely interesting beer garden with plenty of seating. Toilets spotless. Highly recommended!
