Built around 250 years ago The Ivy House was originally a coaching inn, and is said to have had some pretty shady visitors on their way through to London in its early days.
From this history ghost stories have developed over the years; some say we have the ghost of a villian who escaped custody while being transported to London but was soon captured and hung here after murdering a local in his attempts to escape. Others believe we have the ghost of a young stable hand, seen by present members of staff.
Some say our 250-year-old inn is haunted by two different ghosts, and while staff and customers have reported spooky sightings, those reported after an evening sampling our whisky collection will be discounted!.

Christmas lunch could have been better. Potatoes were hard and the Turkey was mushy. Staff are great and the rooms are fine for £80.00.
Food was delicious though the beef portion was a little small. I had Turkey which was excellent. Deserts also very good. Only down side was being a little rushed to clear the table for the next group. All in all a very enjoyable Sunday lunch and will revisit.
Didn't stay so ignore room stars. Nice cosy warm atmosphere. Food was good. Prices typical of southern venues and eye watering for a northerner. Fearsome flight of steps down to the place which wasn't good with 2 x 90 year olds.
Used to be a regular here years ago but slowly stopped going so it's very rare I go and it's surprised me how slow and poor everything has become. We booked weeks in advance for a Sunday and it took 20 minutes to get given drinks after ordering and then another 20mins + to be asked what we wanted for food after to be asked for our food order when sitting in the restaurant area.. It was incredibly hot in the venue and the sun was shining so it baffles me why they didn't open more windows and keep doors open, this made it feel more uncomfortable. 2 middle aged northern men and a child came and were seated behind us mid way through the meal and proceeded the have the loudest mobile face time call for a good15 to 20 minutes, I could barely hear my family sitting opposite me due to this, clearly irritating many patrons but staff did nothing, patrons should not have to start confrontations just to have a pleasant meal especially considering the prices. Wouldn't recommend this place anymore, the management changed many years back to some fairly angry south Africans and ever since I stopped being a local.
Lovely meal with a friend. Quality burger, really good value. It was busy but it didn’t feel crowded and the environment in the restaurant was chilled. Staff were very good. I often go for walks nearby with my wife, we both love it and often stop there. The bar food is good. Burger is £16.95 and is great value considering what you get. Better than most others on the market and cheaper.
