So very disappointed , I booked this hotel for a visit down to rugby for a funeral which I explained on the phone - I was asked if I wanted to pay on the phone or when I got there , I said I’d pay when there- then she insisted I pay over the phone ?! Which I did. Unfortunately my husband has had to rush to the bedside of his mother who is fading fast , naturally he needs to be with her when she passes - I’ve rung the hotel to explain my predicament and she just stated if I’m cancelling after 48 hrs you won’t get your money back ! I asked if I could change it to a different date and we d use it in the future she flatly refused - all the web sites that advertise them state free cancellation! Especially in such difficult circumstances we’ve had to choose to go the my husbands mums bedside - absolutely no compassion- word of warning don’t pay upfront to this hotel as once they have your money they’re just not interested! upset is an understatement.
The hotel was great value for money though could be so much more. A beautiful historic building yearning to be a luxury boutique hotel. Tired and in need of significant investment in the heating system and decor. We stayed end of December and would have appreciated the wood burners being lit. The reception area was stylish yet unheated, despite the unlit wood burner. Come on, you can do better, especially with all the wood from the grounds.
Enjoyable murder mystery evening. Hotel good overall but in need of some TLC - breakfast/afternoon tea room was freezing cold - jumper/coat essential! Room was warm and comfortable but a bit tired decor-wise. Service good, food was ok.
Beautiful hotel. Very original and amazing architecture of the building. Plenty of free parking at main reception and some behind the building. Staff are very welcoming. Would only suggest they put so big floodlight up. I arrived in the evening and missed the sign. It was pitch black dark and no lights to see anything. Also as you enter through, very little lighting outside.
We stayed for 1 night and had a room in the stables. It is an old style hotel and I loved it. The setting was lovely 9and furnishings were well suited to the hotel. The room was large, and the bed was comfortable, and the shower was great. Had the breakfast, which was self-service and loads of selection. The bar prices were average. There was a wedding on, however, did not impact our stay. Staff all seemed friendly and had no issues, what so ever. I'm already booked to go back next year.
