The Britannia inn is the only pub that is located in a desert in the U.K. A renowned pub and restaurant serving fish & chips and other home cooked food.
Two minutes walk from the beach, this fantastic pub is in the heart of Dungeness estate, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and home to some extremely rare wildlife. The pub sits between the two Dungeness lighthouses and within a few minutes walk of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, which dates from 1927.
We are open all day throughout the summer months, while in winter we are open at lunchtimes and early evenings, when a real fire keeps everyone warm.
The service was friendly, followed by a great meal. The calamari and scampi were both tasty and great portions. Planty of drinks to choose from, sadly they run out of the homemade apple tart by the timeIwas to order some.
Nice and crispy fish and chips ....only miss was the grilled fish ...I was expecting grilled on hot coal fire ..but felt like it was done over a little bit with flame torch....
Fish and chips were superb. Lovely crispy thin batter, covering a good size portion of fresh cod. Delicious! Tried the chilled Spitfire lager, which is perfect on a warm day!
Lovely staff but the fish and chips were not. The fish was too expensive and oily, we couldn't eat the crust, seriously not worth the money. I honestly can say that I had better fish and chips in Eltham ( London)
We went to the Britannia with an open mind after reading both good and bad reviews. Our experience left nothing to complain about. Beer and wine were both excellent. After a relaxing drink we ordered food and the cod and chips was very good. Chips cooked perfectly. Staff were pleasant and efficient. A great place to have a break when travelling on the RHDR. Perhaps new menu's, they were a bit worn.
