The Boat Inn has served the local community of Sprotborough for centuries, dating back as far as 1652 where one of our most famous guests, Sir Walter Scott was said to write a tract of the novel Ivanhoe. After suffering damages from flooding, the pub was recently restored to its traditional best, with the utmost care taken to maintain the original interior style.
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

We've not visited here for a while so we thought we'd pop in. Plenty tables outside but they are in need of a refurb. We ordered drinks and then decided to eat. One starter was disappointing due to its size and the other was pretty average for the price. We were a little disappointed with the fish and chips and hunters chicken! Overpriced and the chicken was soggy and the crust was burnt. The vegan curry was acceptable.
Nice location and pub. Service was good but food only ok/good. The fish finger sandwich was disappointing, the fish goujons were more batter than fish; and not much of them in the sandwich. Two burgers were enjoyed though. Plates came out hot but food luke warm which would suggest on hot plates for a while but was very busy. Would still go again as pub location and service good, but try something different.
Wonderful location next to a canal , with seating in the courtyard, as well as inside the Inn. Dog friendly seating inside is available , but would recommend booking in advance for Sunday lunch ( as it’s gets very busy ). Toilets are upstairs ( did not see any disabled toilets downstairs, but this does not mean they are not available ). Bar staff are very friendly and helpful ( Great asset to any business ). Thank you to Jade ( our server ), and her super colleagues behind the bar . Ordered a Sunday lunch ( Sunday Trio & Sirloin of beef ) . Booking on Sunday is advantageous as inside the Inn was full , fortunately we had a parasol as it decided to rain during our lunch . Food was presented well and looked good value for money . Only point I must raise is : Roast New Potatoes ( Hard and dry ) Beef ( was a tad dry and hard ) They were the only points I could raise . Overall , beautiful location , idyllic in the summer or a cosy winter dining location.
Had an amazing lunch today, and it was absolutely incredible. The sticky chicken is one you can’t miss with a starter side of halloumi fries, with the perfect fish and chips and mushy peas. Jades service was amazing and compliments to the chefs for producing such quality food. Can’t wait for lunch tomorrow 🦉😉
A pleasant meal, we had the two course special, soup and steak fries, also mushrooms starter and gammon with eggs n chips, the mushroom was very tasty. The staff did a great job, also bring a cardy its cool inside.
