About us

Situated on the beautiful North Yorkshire Coast between Scarborough and Filey the village of Cayton is mentioned in the Domesday book as Caitune and there is no doubt that it existed many years prior 1066. Standing next to the 12th Century church in the heart of this village is the former ‘Smithy’ and ‘Inn’.

For more than 200 years the former cottages on the corner of Church Lane and Main Street have been of service to locals and travellers alike with the resident blacksmith shoeing horses and offering hospitality.

After an extensive 3 year renovation project our family have breathed life into this historic site and are proud to be able to open the doors to welcome guests once more.

The Farrier has four individually designed, equestrian inspired bedrooms.

In a nod to the equestrian heritage associated with 89 Main Street each room pays homage to various equine tales and endeavours.

A wonderful overnight stay on a January evening. Professional friendly staff who took pride in their area of expertise. Food outstanding and presented beautifully. Had meals there before and consist high quality. Vegans and vegetarians included and not an issue. Highly recommended for both food and accommodation.

This is a true hidden gem in the North Yorkshire village of Cayton! Our group had searched for a venue for our Christmas get together, and one family suggested we try The Farrier. Thankfully we managed to get a booking, as it’s a very popular spot, and it’s no surprise! Though not much to see from the outside, looks are definitely deceptive in this case! The interior is stunning - showcasing exactly how much love and attention the owners have given to transforming the Farrier into a stunning location. We were a larger group, including kids and dogs, but The Farrier staff accommodated us fully with friendly reception and meeting our every need. We were seated at a comfortable long table, didn’t have to wait long for dishes or drinks, and were served delicious food at every course. Overall our experience was fantastic, and I’d highly recommend a visit to The Farrier for anyone looking for something special in the dining area!

This was our first visit to The Farrier for an overnight stay, dinner and breakfast. The room we stayed in along with the whole of the hotel is beautifully decorated and appointed. Scrupulously clean, all of the staff were very friendly, polite and professional. The food served for dinner and breakfast was absolutely fabulous, the freshest of ingredients and all served hot. Immensely looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended !

It is a absolutely amazing place!! Our room was beautiful, very comfortable and luxurious. We had afternoon tea when we arrived, which was huge and delicious. Breakfast the next morning was also plentiful and of a very high standard. Everything here makes your stay really enjoyable, staff are very friendly and outstanding. Attention detail is what makes your stay somewhere even more enjoyable, the Farrier has it in bucket loads and other places should take a leaf out of Danni's book!!

We had an evening meal here as a treat on a few days away. The venue itself is very nice and homely. Decorated to a high standard. Service was very good without being overbearing. They sorted my wife out with a non alcoholic wine and when she forgot what it was, she gave a brief description to see server and they were able to identify it straight away. The food was amazing, all courses were very good tasty and filling. The starter of mussels could easily be shared. I could barely finish my dessert, but look at it! How could I not. A great bit of theater to end the meal. Highly recommended, we've already got our eye on a room for a return visit.
