The Bear in Crickhowell has been a resting place for travellers and a meeting place for friends since 1432. A traditional and historic coaching Inn, The Bear offers a warm welcome, whether you are exploring the beautiful Brecon Beacons, or wanting to eat great food and drink in comfortable surroundings.
Eat at The Bear and sample a wide menu of beautifully cooked local foods, with traditional tastes mingling with modern dishes. Dine surrounded by chatter and laughter in the bar, in the more intimate candle-lit surroundings of our table-service restaurants, or amongst the floral displays in our summer gardens.
You can stay in oak-beamed bedrooms at The Bear, just as stagecoach passengers did. Or sleep in more modern rooms in our converted stable block. You can relax in a spa bath or four poster bed. We have rooms for every occasion and every budget at The Bear.
At The Bear, we know that creating the right atmosphere for your business meeting or social occasion is important to you and your guests. We have function rooms that can seat up to 60 people and we can offer a range of catering and drinks options – featuring locally sourced food and drinks.

We are very dog friendly at The Bear. Guests can eat with their dog in the bars and The Bear is surrounded by the beautiful Brecon Beacons - with hundreds of miles of walks to suit dogs of all abilities!.

Great walkers Hotel- Public bar and restaurant. Reasonably priced food, good selection of ales. Walk right out into the black mountains from your room(or down to the Usk for a morning dip). Lovely
The Bear is a beautiful and atmospheric place to visit; even if you just pop in for a drink. The different rooms have character, including log fires in winter. The Christmas decorations are lovely. There is a great menu and the food is lovely - featuring locally sourced produce. Staff are lovely, cheery and helpful. The ales are well kept and plentiful. The garden is lovely in the summer. What's not to like?!
A lovely hotel and pub with dog friendly rooms and good quality food. We really enjoyed our stay here. An EV charger on site would have made it perfect, but the high speed charger in the nearby car park was still very convenient.
We just came here for dinner, not the hotel. As a vegetarian, I got one of the meal options, the cauliflower dish. Unless you are sharing this as a side dish, I don't recommend it. It is just a plate of cauliflower. The sauce was good and the cauliflower was cooked well, but it shouldn't have been advertised or served as an entre. Get the veggie burger or something. Other than that, it was a great place for dinner. Great atmosphere, my partner enjoyed his meal of lamb, and the chips were delicious. The vegan ice cream was phenomenal. To the point where we didn't believe it was vegan and had to ask to make sure. They brought us another one to be sure, but it was just as delicious! Both were vegan (due to an allergy we would have known eventually if it wasn't). Kind of blew my mind. Drinks were great as well. And the locals were super friendly and we had a great time watching some Welsh rugby there.
Cycled here for some food. The food was great, we all had burgers, but it was a little expensive really. I would go back and it was very busy, so expect it's a popular spot, but it's more of a nice meal out than a quick budget meal. Staff we're fantastic in my opinion. Always very helpful.
