The Bear is a gorgeous 9 bedroom Country Inn and AA Rosette Restaurant only 4 miles from the centre of Oxford.
The Bear & Ragged Staff in Cumnor is a world away from the Newbury & Swindon roads that stream past only a mile from its door. The heart of the pub is a glorious Tudor beauty. Ancient fireplaces, flagstone floors and mullioned windows with carved lintels, make the bar one of the finest anywhere. A comfortable eatery, conservatory and South-facing terrace provide spaces for every mood – and winding stairs lead to cosy bedrooms with old oak doorways & beamed ceilings. AA Rosette Awarded.

Visited for lunch to a cheerful, warm and friendly welcome. An attractive restaurant, smart surroundings and the service was excellent. We chose the roast beef which was unfortunately sinewy, tough, well below standard and not eaten. Staff were most apologetic and extremely keen to rectify with an alternative.
Nice restaurant Main meal was good. Disappointing dessert the Trifle was just a glass with cream on top of very dry cake with a couple of blackberries in the bottom not nice or worth the money. Give them credit they did knock them off the bill. Would be better to change the recipe or remove from menu.
Rooms, food ,drink, venue and especially the staff where excellent. I booked this place as a stop off before moving onto our end destination. Nice big restaurant in the new part of the property and a real log fire in the original bar area of the building.. The menu was varied and the food was very good and of excellent quality. We didn't book the breakfast option when booking the room, but you are able to have breakfast if you decide to do so the next morning. Again the breakfast menu is varied and offers far more than a full English. All the staff where engaging and made or short stay an enjoyable one. We will certainly make a point of visiting again when we are next in the area,
Our room was beautiful and spacious with a firm but comfy bed - watch out for the low doorways and beams! It's certainly got lots of character! We stayed for one night and had a drink in the cosy bar area by the fireplace followed by dinner in the restaurant. The food was excellent, our dinner was delicious and both had the steaks which were cooked perfectly. Our breakfast was excellent too, the full English was great. The staff were exceptional, very welcoming with great service and very attentive. We will certainly be back.
Me and dad had a first class experience at the Bear and ragged staff during our 4 nights stay! This place is nothing less then marvelous! Food and staff is 11 out of 10. What a friendly atmosphere! We will remember this place forever! And the coffee was 10 times marvelous! Highly, highly recommended. I’ll be back!
