A friendly and welcoming traditional English pub with coal fire. Small beer garden. No food. Highly recommended.
We have done a Christmas ride in fancy dress, around the wolds for the last 13 years, and the barrel has always been on our rout, always been welcomed and had a good time, this year was different, Im not sure if it's under new management but we walked through the door and was told to leave straight away as they was too full, (which they wasnt) but then was allowed to but only if we was quick and quiet, so we complied, but I think it was the manager who was quite rude to us and clearly doesnt have much Christmas spirit, so we drank up and left, I would have though a pub would have loved to have 16 people buying multiple drinks for a couple of hours, looks like we should try another one in Walkington next time.
This was our 'calendar' pub for the month of July 23.. Lovely country pub, great inside and even a couple of benches outside on the roadside. Staff were friendly and whilst not a massive selection the beers were well kept. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food should they do food. Good visit
The barrel in Walkington is a proper friendly traditional English Village pub. They serve excellent quality hand pulled cask conditioned real ale. It's a nice cozy pub with several rooms. There is a good sized secluded garden at the back. Dog friendly, on street parking. Highly recommended.
Lovely little village pub. Bar staff friendly and very welcoming. they don't do food only bar snacks.
