Generous servings, clean surroundings, was quite when we visited so was surprised that the food was delayed. Sticky toffee pudding disappointing, waffles humongous. Friendly staff
The food is excellent, although we did have to wait a long time for a child’s dessert, which he wouldn’t eat as the fruit was still partially frozen so far to cold for him. the staff are lovely and tried to help when we asked if we could move the table. Unfortunately there weren’t any free. As in the restaurant part there was a party of people who were drinking only. They were exceptionally loud, I couldn’t hear my friend who was less than 2 feet away. It was making my ears ring. We had an autistic child of 4 with us and he was telling us to make them quiet. It did ruin what was a lovely meal. I will recommend dining thee for Sunday lunch or lunch on any other day if the need for a quiet meal is wanted.
Top tip: if you arrive by car, record your registration number on entry so you don't get a parking fine. Friendly welcome, plenty of seating, good selection of drinks - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The menu had a good selection of food which caters for all tastes. There is a delay when busy, but our food arrived quicker than expected which was pleasing.
I have been to the pub many times and used to love it but it seems they have removed so many vegan and vegetarian items from their menu. I understand it's likely Ember Inns as a whole who have done this but definitely doesn't make me want to visit again as there's a lack of options now. I also noticed another review saying the music is very loud and the owner responded saying it's set and cannot be changed. This is a lie as when we went last night at 6pm we could barely have a conversation so asked the staff to turn it down and they did. It's just such an average pub, nothing special about it anymore and doesn't have its local charming pub atmosphere now they've changed the decor to try and make it more modern. Such a shame it's gone downhill so quickly!
I stopped here for dinner while I was waiting for a train from Bristol, and I was pleased with the service and quality of food. It’s a very normal chain-style pub, and I was surprised there was no chicken on the set Sunday roast menu, but not a problem. I ordered the ‘duo of roast’ - beef, turkey, pigs in blankets, veg, potatoes, and stuffing. It was spot on, and the gravy was flavourful and rich. Just minutes after I ordered, via the website so I didn’t have to leave my bags, my drink arrived to my table, and I only had to wait 5-10 minutes for the meal, not long at all! Once I finished, I decided to get dessert as I had time (given the fast service), and it arrived just as quickly. I will say, I ordered the brownie & ice cream for dessert as it was small, but it was advertised as coming with a tea or coffee - however there was no way of choosing tea or coffee on the website, and it arrived in under 10 mins, without a hot drink, and the waiter didn’t ask. It wasn’t worth the full £4.99 without the drink, but I had a train to catch so didn’t have time to push for it. The staff did their jobs well, nothing out of the ordinary, they were mostly teenagers made to work on a bank holiday Sunday, so it’s probably to be expected. It was still good service, a nice place, which I definitely recommend visiting.
