About us

When we first opened the doors of the Auld Shillelagh in 1991 it was just a tiny pub consisting of the bar, some bar stools and a single toilet with a dart board on the door. From the start we were determined to create a traditional pub with well kept beer, a friendly atmosphere, professional bar staff, and to serve the best Guinness in London.

Over 20 years have passed and the pub is now 3 times longer with a beer garden out the back that faces the sun for most of the day, we have live music every week and show all the major sporting events on multiple big screens.

We also still take pride in looking after our beers, the Guinness is regularly touted by reviewers and customers alike as the best in north London, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and we would put our bar staff up against the best of them.

1st stop on a long Guinness pub crawl. High expectations and remembered when I arrived that I had been to the Auld Shillelagh when it first opened back on 1991! Great atmosphere and efficient staff who are constantly pouring pints with the proper time and care to deliver a perfect looking pint each time. Sat out the back in the covered area that also has great heating. Guinness was good but not the best of the day but did enjoy our short time at the Auld Shillelagh. A little out of the way but a pub all Guinness fans should visit.

Really good atmosphere for a pub, even has a garden to the rear with heating. Prices are reasonable

There is no better place in Stokey for a stunning pint of Dublin Guinness. Lovely bar. Really friendly staff. No food rating as I guess Tayto crisps don't count? If they do, then I will edit for 5* there too!

Felt this place was overrated as a genuine Irish pub. Only Irish pint they sell is Guinness which is hardly impressive. The live music wasn't even trad. Maybe if you're English this place feels genuine, but it doesn't come close to a proper pub at home. Ok as a pub otherwise but doesn't live up to the reputation.

Great and fun authentic Irish Pub located in Stoke Newington. Absolutely authentic and amazing atmosphere inside, great place to watch hurling or GAA. Plenty bring their dogs which makes for a great atmosphere. Very large and spacious outdoor space, great for the weekend. Beautiful local, definitely recommend.
