About us

The good people of Bamford thought big when saving their pub in 2013: they also took over an adjoining cafe and post office, so you can send a postcard, have a cup of tea and a scone and, when the sun is over the yardarm, into the pub you pop for a pint or two. Flagstones, bare stone walls, wooden beams and settles set the scene for the interior, and in the winter you can sip your beer by the log-burner. There is good robust, home-cooked food and a sense of belonging, and after a day walking in the Peak District, foamy Black Sheep bitter is an ideal contemplative pint.

Serving food Monday to Saturday, 12h00 to 14h30 and 18h00 to 20h30, and on Sunday from 12h00 to 16h00.

Regular changing cask ales.

Holy cow, I just ate the best roast dinner that I've ever had. The Anglers achieved something I didn't think possible at a pub Sunday lunch - actually medium rare roast beef. And the assortment of sides was not only extensive (think root veg, buttered greens, stuffing, mash, pigs in blanket, roasties and a Yorkshire pudding) but outrageously tasty. The mash potatoes had some sort of magic in it to make it taste like the nectar of the gods. The pub is community owned and it really had a sense of being a bustling hub. Plus they very tolerant of an over excited 4yo. I cannot recommend a visit enough, but it was all booked out when we arrived so best to book ahead. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Was hiking in the area, never intended to drop by BUT wow 🤩 what an mistake that would of been!! Definitely found an hidden gem in the valley, the Sunday roast was absolutely amazing, it was prepared slightly differently than your normal standard roast but no complaints, definitely worth a visit if u in the area, highly recommended 👍🏻

Driven past many times on the journey twixt Manchester and Sheffield but usually when the pub is shut. Popped in for a quick half with Madge. Three real ales. I had the Peak Ales Chatsworth Gold. An excellent beer. They also had a Peak Ales Stout and an Abbeydale Moonshine Pale Ale. Madge had a Porretti, a rare Pub lager find. The pub is a community hub and has a Post Office. Half the interior acts as a café as well. Some nice indoor spaces in the surprisingly large establishment. Would have liked to stay longer. Also did not know there is a large car park to the side and rear away from the main road. Free for pub users, otherwise pay. There are picnic tables outside to the side of the car park for al fresco drinks plus a tent covered patio if it rains.

Not a big menu, but they have some basic pub grub choices and a few slightly more interesting starters like hallumi in honey. The traditional beef roast was just one slice, but it was very thick and tasty so actually a nice change from the usual thin slices. The Yorkshire pudding was a jumbo one with not enough gravy, so very dry. Thick cut chips are done very well, seem to be triple cooked and very crispy Would be idea if they served it with gravy plus an additional gravy boat to pour on yourself

We were looking for a place to eat near Bamford's Edge and the other places we tried had a very long wait for the food (close to an hour). Thus, we were looking for a place where that wouldn't be the case. Thankfully, we stumbled upon the Anglers Rest. This is a comfy and welcoming place with great food! It's the kind of food that makes you feel good (and I'm not saying this just because we were hungry). Highly recommended. We had Beef and Chicken Roast, Fish and Chips & the Chicken Burger (which was awesome).
