The Angel Inn, and Oakbank House, is a Lakeland gem in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere with sweeping water and forest views.
An easy amble from the shores of England’s largest lake Windermere, this classic inn has sweeping views above the jolly bustle of the village below.

The location is in city centre, really good location. Breakfast great!!! Pub great, I like the local IPA, and the dinner was great as well. Room OK, expect to have a slipper, but other things all perfect, recommend to stay here more than 2 nights. I wish I could come again in the coming years.. I like the experience. Ps: I know some people complain about food price here, I come from London so I think it’s ok. Please remember this is a tourism city, you need to pay for a premium I think.
Popped in for a bit of light lunch after a hike. It was bustling with life and dog friendly. Lovely rooms to sit in and a great atmosphere! The food was absolutely fantastic, and service was brilliant even through it was very busy. I would absolutely recommend and will be visiting again if I am in the area in the future.
We had a lovely roast dinner, beautiful cooked and one of the best we’ve ever had. We came on a snowy night and enjoyed the roaring fire and the traditional British feel! Really handy as well in the centre of town.
This is a lovely pub with great decor and views. We were a family of 8 and didn't stay there so can't comment on the rooms. The food was good however considering the size of our party I would have expected table service but we had to order food and drinks at the bar which didn't make it a relaxing experience. I have marked it down for this reason only.
I'm posting this in November. - Stayed for 2 nights in the annex- large, spacious, clean and comfortable room with an elevated view to the lake. - Need to book a table at peak times even now. - Maybe different in summer as there is an excellent outdoor area with plenty of tables (all look recently renewed). These are on a tiered terrace and no doubt will be superb in summer catching sun for much of the day. Nice for a couple of refreshments of choice. The new menu started on the day we arrived, and given that all the tables were taken, the staff did a great job of getting meals out in reasonable time. Importantly, the food we were served had clearly not spent too much time on a heated pass from the kitchen. The fact that the Angel is dog friendly was important to us, but the few dogs in there were well behaved, and there were no issues. - A couple of real ales on the go. Don't know if they are fixed and don't change, but the pale was very good. -Last but not least, all the staff were very helpful and friendly, without exception. Shout out for Ann- Marie, who was great from start to finish with good humour- even dealing professionally with the toaster when some numpty stuck a croissant into the toaster and......flames etc. I definitely recommend it. - Will be back here soon.
