About us

The Anchor Inn, Salterforth is the ideal choice for meals and drinks, situated in the close to the friendly market town of Barnoldswick, set in stunning scenery it's the ideal choice for business or pleasure

A famous landmark, the Anchor Inn is located in a beautiful location where Bronte country meets the Yorkshire Dales, Pendle and the forest of Bowland. The Anchor Inn dates back to 1655 when it used to be called the 'The Travellers Rest', in the 1770's when work was taking place on the construction of the Leeds Liverpool Canal which runs behind the pub, the old 'Travellers Rest' became damp and a new pub was built above it utilising the old pub as its cellars! The cellars are now famous for the interesting display of stalactites and stalagmites, if you ask the Landlord he may even have time to give you a tour!!!

The Anchor Inn has long since become the meeting place in the village, where a welcoming convivial atmosphere awaits. There is a bar area and dining rooms, a roaring open fire, hand pulled ales and a comprehensive winelist.

Open every day, everyone is welcome at the Anchor.

Not eaten here yet, but this place is nice and cosy, staff are very helpful and friendly, myself and my girlfriend we go here on our mountain bikes, our 6mile local for a shandy and some crisps, this time round we were a little cold and asked if they do hot drinks, not at the moment as they are waiting for a coffee machine, but the boss went above and beyond and made myself and Julia a mug off tea ☕☕ free of charge, they now serve meals in the Anchor ⚓ which we will be trying next time we visit, it's pizza and other stuff, but they've only been open since last time it was closed, but there going in the right direction for a great pub and great hospitality... Must go 👍

One of the best pints of beer I've had in a long time and really warm and friendly folks. Well worth a visit!

Good beer, gorgeous food and a great venue! My wife booked an evening table at The Anchor Inn, Salterforth for four of us to eat and drink and celebrate my birthday. The host Brian, our waitress Harriet and chef Dan made our night very enjoyable. Service was friendly and engaging (without being imposing), and the food was particularly worthy of praise. Two of us ate the Short rib of beef with English ale pie, and I found it incredibly tasty; the crust was delightfully thin, the gravy was rich and beery, the shallots and mushrooms were yummy, and the beef was tender & succulent. I ate a steak and ale pie elsewhere the week before, and whilst that was tasty, this one was finer by far! The accompanying chunky chips & vegetables were also delicious - this coming from a person who normally avoids vegetables; Chantenay carrots (I think) and an incredibly moreish tangy & semi-sweet red cabbage. The cabbage was a revelation for a veg-avoider like me (I originally thought it was some caramelised red onion), and our host Brian explained it was the way the cabbage was braised with pear. I've never tasted veg like it, and I liked it so much I was given a small container of it to take home, and was emailed the recipe from chef Dan - what better service can you get? Our other halves had a lovely-looking burger with chips, and a handsome portion of fish & chips, and they both also really enjoyed their meals. My pal and I each had a dessert; he ate the brownie whilst I had the toffee / treacle pudding (I thought it was toffee but my wife though it was more gingery). A great place to eat sumptuous food. We'll be back again soon as I next want to try the pan-friend chicken with pesto penne!

Lovely pub, unfortunately the draft beer wasn't on which is a shame as they have 3 great options. Opted for a brew, and we also ordered 2 hot chocolates, all too milky, very little chocolate in the hot chocolates, real shame as it is a great pub.
