Recently went to this pub for food, asked if food was available as pub was empty. Response yes we're doing food but we have gathering coming in so there would be a wait for food not what you want to hear when the pubs empty. So left without eating, probably won't return as you didn't want my business.
Where do I start. Had pre booked the table for 6pm, got there before but still weren't seated until after 6, the waitress did warn us of a wait on food, 30-45 minutes, I could live with that. The atmosphere felt like everyone was quietly disappointed with their experiences, I could hear complaints from another table as well. Ordered drinks, took 20 mins and they didnt have half of the cocktails due to not having any tequila!?!? Also the waitress couldn't tell us what WAS available without going to the bar to check, food took over an hour! The way this restaurant is run is all wrong, the chef needs to be sacked as it seems he/she can only cook 1 meal at a time. I had a smothered platter which was literally a gammon steak and breaded mini chicken fillet with a slice of cheap cheese melted on top. The steak, I don't know what cut it was from the cow, but it was INEDIBLE!! I couldn't even push my fork through it. Terrible. Very very poor, and, on top of all that, for a family of 4, with 20% discount on food, it still cost over £65!!! I'm stunned. I would highly recommend you don't choose this place as you will be very disappointed.
Regular visitors until covid. Came last year, food and service was poor. Left it a year and visited last night 19/1/24, nothing has changed! Waited an hour for food, 20mins for drinks! When food arrived the chips were cold and soggy. Fish had been refried. We wont be back until they change the chef. Sorry! Shame , as its walking distance from the house. area manager, what the hell are you doing about it?
Turned up to see if we could get a table prior to attending a funeral 100 yards away. We waited for 10 minutes without any acknowledgement from other staff only to be told very abruptly and rudely that as we hadn't booked they could not fit us in. I understand it the Christmas season.. but manners and politeness cost nothing.
Overall nice pub. Great atmosphere with loads of small screened individually decorated areas containing only a few tables, Nice variety of pub food and good value breakfast, continental choices and simple flexible style full English breakfast (just select the components, and they are cooked fresh and served quickly). No other choices like Benedict, salmon etc, just full English. Could no with some minor refresh, some of the seats had worn fabric and the entry was a bit shabby but overall great place to meet a few friends over a meal and a drink.
