DISAPPOINTING AT BEST - Went for Sunday lunch today (21.1.2024) but we were left really disappointed. The meal arrived promptly but was mildly lukewarm at best. We did tell the staff but by that point it was to late (I guess our fault) but it really shouldn't have left the kitchen at that temperature - the chef should have known this and really should have checked how hot it was; perhaps environmental health would be interested in serving temperatures. Nonetheless, despite telling them they didn't really seem to be too bothered. We ordered apple crumble for a sweet (one with custard and the other with cream) but both arrived with custard - by the time the cream arrived it was a little colder (so same again). In addition they served it with a white unripe strawberry which was obviously rock-hard and bitter - as unripe things tend to be. I went to pay the bill and raised the matters with the manager but again another fairly (NOT BOTHERED) attitude towards the quality of the meal. Apparently, they serve all puddings with a strawberry for effect was the response but couldn't comprehend an unripe strawberry is bitter and hard and inedible! It was also a little annoying that the lad behind the bar kept throwing bottles into a glass bin from a height - when people were trying to have a peaceful meal on a Sunday afternoon. So overall - if the staff cant be bothered, then nor are we and we wont be going back. Honestly with this type of attitude I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else to dine here either. My advice - Cherry Tree is just up the road if you don't drive, and if you do there are plenty on other places which serve HOT food in a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. Tim

Sunday lunch organised the night before, with my adult daughter. Can’t comment on the accomdation. Staff were very attentive, food was very good, we both had lamb. We also ordered a side dish of pigs in blankets- totally unnecessary as we couldn’t eat them- we were very full! I always judge a good Sunday lunch by the veg, beautifully cooked but not overdone. Very nice indeed! I’m going back next Sunday.

A large group of us had Sunday lunch here to celebrate a big birthday. Very welcoming staff with a good buzz of atmosphere. Food was beautifully presented, generously portioned and very tasty. Although we live in Scotland we will return when we are down for our next visit.

We had a family meal there. The food was very nice, except the meat was cooked in gravy, and no mange tout. A bit expensive. The reason I gave 3 stars is mainly because the toilets were disgusting. Not clean, no locks on the doors, broken toilet seats, no toilet roll holders. A must for the pub to put right . I wouldn't go back because of that.

A lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, some of the menu wasn't available, a few soft drinks were also unavailable and this was at 5.45pm. Having said that, what we ordered (cod & chips, pasta and steak pie) was lovely. It arrived quickly, hot and good sized portions. All in all a very enjoyable meal, will definitely be back.
